But back to the topic at hand, I think 3-D is fading away, slowly, very slowly, and now I see reboots of the reboots.

3D is fun when it's done right, everything doesn't need to be 3D though. I would just settle for a good horror film by conventional means, but that again is asking too much.

When it it cheaper to do, I bet. Just like movies in color, t.v. in HD, decent sound, ect., when it gets cheaper to do more people will figure out how to do it better. For now, even that half assed SyFy crap is accepted by the industry because they cannot afford better.

3-D is today's shaky camera. Spammed to death because one film broke the bank. It will fade from spamming, in time, but a few films here and there will still use it as the years go on... for better or worse.

That is beyond asking too much!

I wonder why no one has ever just tried to make a standard horror film, that doesn't try to get you with jumps scares and make you think all the time. Just a slasher going around killing people for the hell of it. What we are missing in horror nowadays is the mystery aspect of things.

That is why I considered Michael to be the best of the villains, because, and before all those sequels, he seemed to just pick his prey and kill them for the hell of it. There was no reason as to why, and when they tried to give a reason, it ended up turning the entire thing into something that is now ruined thanks to the hands of Rob Zombie.

But if they could just keep the mystery aspect of things, horror would be a lot better. Now they have to answer so many questions until the movies just seem stupid.

You can only rehash the same idea so many times before it gets stale (sequels).
A movie doesn't even have to be original to be good, it's just needs talent, and a likable cast. Somehow both are absent in everything that's made recently. Even some of the promising, up and coming filmmakers, are starting to crap out.

I know, it seems like they go more for the pretty faces and not for the talent at hand. I think that's a big problem with films nowadays. Nice point!

Pretty faces have been a part of horror for years. It's always a pleasure looking at a hot, young, beautiful face...and having them carved up. The main problem is that nowadays, those hot, young, beautiful people don't have an ounce of acting talent. Film makers will make the characters as annoying as possible in the film, so it's more a pleasure to see them die.

I mean, look at the remake of House of Wax. Do you honestly think Paris Hilton was the absolute best actress for that job? They put her in there with the intention of HER dying. She is a shitty actress and doesn't need any more money, but she was starred in a horror movie role. For what? So more people watch the movie and say, "Best part was when Paris Hilton got killed".

    Bullshit.

They can afford to do it better, but why should they when they're perfectly happy making the money that they make now? As long as they know they have that audience they will commit themselves to a minimal effort

Like, so many people out there were trying to track this down. And it just...got delivered on a tweet. What the hell.

I see the trend of 3D fading out within a few years as well. It's cool once in a while, but everything being in 3D is obnoxious and annoying. CGI gets on my nerves. Sometimes it works well, for dream sequences and things like that, but overall it looks worse than the prosthetics and fake blood used in the 70s - 90s. Give me the old Tom Savini effects over CGI any day of the week - they are far more entertaining.

    As for the films mentioned:
Feardotcom was crap. I watched it at eleven or twelve and was like, wtf is this shit?
I haven't seen the Relic, but it's definitely on my list of movies I need to see.
I'm also looking forward to Red State. It would be nice to have a successful indie-horror, with maybe a somewhat original plot? The storyline is being kept pretty hush-hush. Plus, Kyle Gallner (Quentin from NOES remake) is in it.

I think remakes are here to stay.

Look all around in every genre. The recipe is there.

Fresh cast (talent or no talent), new fresh name director.

    Make bank
    Make sequels till they don't
    Wait a period of time
    Rinse
    Repeat

You will see t his a lot more, it will probably be most effective in comic book related films but it can apply to anything.

It's safe studio money and more over as long as the economy is in its dumps. Studios will be able to go back to that excuse as its safe and bankable.

    1. Use the brand name
    2. Replace cast over and over after its run is over
    3. Money
