So i watched this last night because i love all things Dafoe. I really can't express how disappointed i was in this movie. The whole thing just pissed me off from beginning to end. The director Lars von Trier was trying to make a statement? I dunno wtf this mess is suppost to be about. I do know the couple's child dies at the beginning of the movie and mom goes off the deep end. So they take a vacation to some retreat somewhere and things take a turn for the really weird. This is a horror/arthouse film from what i can tell. I have read a few reviews on IMDB praising it for being "art" others call it "pretentious" i'm going with the latter. Have any of you guys watched this? If so please enlighten me what is suppost to be so good about it...

There is another thread about this somewhere..but I've seen it. It's strange. I don't know if I liked it or not. Some parts were good and that's what kept me watching, other parts were just boring as shit. I think the director may have tried to hard to make it "different" and "artsy" when it just came out a jumbled mess.

I enjoyed it from start to finish. Despite a few things, like the penetration shot I thought was unnecessary and took away from the beautiful filming of the opening, that and the shaky cam bullshit. I thought the acting was really good. The mutilation of the male genitalia was gut wrenching and caught me off guard. I love that ending.

We learn that ’she’ saw her son before he fell and could have stopped him. ’She’ spent a summer in ’Eden’, their cabin in the woods, alone with her son, where she every day switched his shoes to the wrong foot, causing permanent damage to his feet. During this time she was writing a thesis about historical murders of women, including witch burnings

.....I'm thinking women are evil and it goes back to orginal sin... that 'Eve' tempted 'Adam' and they were casted out of Eden...I'm not too sure. alot of deep thinking needed here.

Wooden understood the movie pretty well.

Point 1 in the spoiler is sooooooo right.
Point 2 is to be linked with her thesis about evil women. In fact, this thesis is "developed" quickly in the movie (remember what concerns the child) cos' the evil part of the movie deals with women.

Visually speaking, the movie is splendid. I enjoyed the acting. Like "Valhalla rising", this is not just a movie but an experience to live and maybe enjoy for some people.

Well i'm glad some people liked it, to me it was just a pretentious mess. i didn't like any of it and the same goes for Valhalla Rising. I watched that a few months ago as well

I didn't care much for Valhalla Rising either, and Antichrist is a movie that I never got to.

This is not my type of horror film, so I didn't waste my time with it. I think that's Frosts problem.

I know it's one of those artsy films that tries to make you think of how the antichrist could get to us through nature, so I knew to ignore when the critics were praising it.

Or you can watch it yourself and develop your own idea rather than just looking at a movie and going "Nah I won't like it". It's actually a very good film.
