Musically, I always found Mayhem to be a bit overrated. Don't get me wrong, they were great in their early days, but I always felt bands like Emperor and Immortal were much better. However, it can't be denied that they were the godfathers of Norwegian black metal. As an outsider, meaning before I started liking black metal, they were a fascinating band to read about because of all the shit that happened with them. So, I definitely have plenty of respect for them.
This song is also bad ass, anyway

I feel the same about death metal. I definitely like some, and I definitely respect the genre, but not enough of it has clicked for me to consider myself a real fan of the genre. But then, I honestly haven't taken as much of an effort to sit down and listen/research like I have with black metal.
On the topic of death metal, I'm pretty sure I've posted this in the thread in the last few months, but this is probably one of the first death metal bands I started listening to, and they're still one of my favorites. Love the opening to this song

Black-ish metal band I like.
I can feel your blood
dripping on my skin
I can taste your flesh

This is an interesting channel.
Two audio engineers who focused almost exclusively on rap/hip hop/R&B in their careers, reacting to and actually doing a very good job of evaluating metal and rock.

I also found this.... now, i found this fucking incredible and amazing how well Chris Cornell managed to put the song together.
The backstory is he learned to play "One" by U2.
When he googled lyrics for "One" he was not paying attention to who the artist was and ended up downloading "One" by Metallica. Its fucking mind boggling how well this all goes together.

It's nice these guys are expanding their music taste, but the releases they pick have been out for a long time usually. Not really interesting reviewing insanely popular and mainstream metal. I have seen some of their videos and I could care less about what they think. Good if you're a metal noobie though I guess
Anyway, back to metal

Gotta' love Alestorm
Was listening to this song for a while before I realized this is the instrumental version of a song he did. He released this song on the bonus track version of his first demo, which were all instrumentals. I eventually found out he released a version with vocals on his full length album a year later under a much different name.
And at this point, even though I'm a fan of his vocals, I prefer the instrumental version of the song. It sounds awesome, and it makes me think that if there was a black metal song used in a Fantasia movie, it would be something like this

Been listening to Black September for years. BTW, thats a woman doing the vocals. We need more female fronted metal bands IMO

Indeed. She's one of the better female metal vocalists out there, in my opinion. Brutal as hell. We definitely need more, but there are actually quite a few great ones out there right now. Found a ton of great ones from this blog

On that topic, probably one of the first female black metal bands ever. I haven't found any that have pre-dated them (formed in 1992, according to Encyclopedia Metallum). They haven't released a whole lot from what I've seen. An EP back in 2007 that was decent, from the bit that I've heard. This song is probably their most well known, which was released in 1998 on some compilation album, and I think it's a pretty awesome song
