Just watched this and personally I think it looks amazing. Can't wait to see it in theaters.

The sequels really aren't that bad, they're entertaining and the last couple sequels have actually been surprisingly good. I'd say give'em a look if you're bored and want a decent time-waster

The first 3 are pretty much just racing movies, so from them I'd say 1 > 3 > 2

Part 4 and 5 are action movies with racing/car chasing elements, so 5 > 4

So the series essentially changes with the 4th installment, but changes for the better. You can only do the whole street racing thing for so long before it grows tiresome. I like where it's headed now--just being over-the-top fun action flicks.

More than likely, the series changed just so it could survive.

Much in the same way, I don't think it would've made it to 6 had Diesal butted out and stayed out.

That said, they'll keep making them as the old cliche goes, if they make money. That, and lets face it. Nobody gives a shit about Paul Walker and Vin Diesal outside of this franchise. So they'll come back.

Still miind boggling to me how Dwayne Johnson has literally been in everything over the last couple years. Sure, he was decent in that football prison movie years ago, but I don't think much of him as a legit actor. Yeah of the wrestling guys, he's probably the most legit, including over Hogan but still.

I respect Dwayne because at least he's trying to be in good movies outside of wrestling. As for an action star, I think he's up there. Give him some more time and I think he's pretty much the next Schwarzenegger. Neither of them can act, but their movies are pretty kick ass.

Mmm, actually, the first one isn't a racing movie. It's an undercover cop movie set in the street racing world. Very little time is actually given to racing itself. It's about Walker's character going undercover and dealing with his conflicting feelings over his target, not entirely unrelated to his feelings for his target's sister. It's exactly, the movie No Man's Land with D.B.Sweenie and the tiger-blood-warlock, with the change that Diesel isn't a real villain, unlike Sheen in NML.

#2 shares even more with the later 4 + 5 than it does the first, it's just not done as well. But it's not a racing movie. Not hardly. It gives even less time to actual racing than the first film and what it does do is just flippin' retarded and all those involved should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

#3 is a coming of age movie that features more racing than any of the other films and would be the only one you could reasonably classify as a "racing movie". Grand Prix is a racing movie. Days of Thunder is a racing movie. #3 is a racing movie with an actual story and characters.

I do agree with your ordering on the first three, though I know deep down #3 is best of the first three, if not the entire franchise (as an actual whole film). I just still prefer the simplicity and pacing of the first film. The third film is like Season of the Witch in the Halloween filmography. It doesn't need to be anything but its own thing and being part of an existing franchise actually hurts it more than helps.

Forgot about the undercover stuff, but all I remember from the first 3 were the cars and the racing, everything else didn't really stick out enough for me to care or remember. 4+ is where it really kicks into gear

They are all good fun. I honestly did not like Tokyo Drift at all but different strokes different folks I suppose.

I've yet to see the fourth in the series. I didn't hear good things about it from my brother who worked on it. One of the studios I used to work for, that two of my brothers work for now, did the backgrounds for the action shots where you see the stars behind the wheel. They did some kick ass work on the Tokyo Drift driving environments. But the studio apparently went really cheap on the 4th. Still, it's Justin Lin at the helm, like Tokyo Drift, Fast 5 and now the new one. I've liked him since seeing Better Luck Tomorrow.

BLT, if you haven't seen it, is really good. It's basically about a bunch of honor-role, socal suburb Asian kids going all Reservoir Dogs. It co-stars several faces you'll recognize from his Fast films, most notably Sung Kang (who's named Han in just about all of his collaborations with Justin Lin, lol) and Jason Tobin.
