You're more or less right in your assessment of Dog Soldiers. It's Aliens with werewolves. The effects are pretty lame as well, though kudos to them for good designs at least. But it's fun. It's one of those "fun" horror movies where "fun" isn't code for "couldn't be bothered to give a fuck about making a decent film." DS is a really low budget film and the filmmaker did a lot with very little (like the GS filmmakers). Someone without at least a few million to spend shouldn't even think about making a werewolf movie, normally. In all of these cases here are films made by folks who actually like the material and who are making films that offer something more than the churn of the studio remake machine and all those joyless sequels and CW drek that the likes of New Line and Dimension typically put out.
