Yeah, it's nice to see they're embracing some of the more experimental stylings you can find in their shorts, particularly in their modeling. They're embracing a less rigid silhouette value that's possible with todays tools that let you basically sculpt your animation to the point that 3D CGI can match the graphic appeal of traditional 2D cel drawings if need be in a way not possible with stop motion puppets, no matter how sophisticated.Originally Posted by Aurone

Pixar is way ahead of the curve on technology, generally speaking, compared to the CG community at large, but character modeling and design is an area they've been pretty stale compared to even the enthusiast realm.

I'm sure I'll end up watching it. I've watched almost every Pixar movie. This trailer didn't have much to it though.

...it's been a long time but I went to school with one of the directors, Mark Andrews. Totally makes sense him doing a project like this with them. He and his brother were part of a group (along with Stu Maschwitz) that called themselves "Knights of the Table Massive" and made these really cool scifi martial arts shorts at school.
Mark was a sophomore or junior when I came in as a freshman. I remember he and his brother animated a trailer for this totally over-the-top epic medieval movie. It was crazy, awesome stuff.
