A spinoff to the hit film 300 from Zack Snyder has been in development for a while, but it wasn't until now that it finally has a director. 300: Battle of Artemisia will be helmed by Noam Murro, the man who directed the 2008 dramedy Smart People Jaum Collet-Serra (Orphan, Unknown) was also eyed by the studio, but he's now working on an Akira live-action film, so Warner Bros. went ahead with Murro.
Previous director Zack Snyder wrote the script with his 300 partner Kurt Johnstad and will also be producing. Naturally this spinoff is aimed to be shot in the same visual style as 300.Artemisia is based on Frank Miller’s upcoming graphic novel that takes Xerxes, the Persian leader who is an antagonist in 300, and turns him into more of a pivotal figure. He's a man in search of godhood after the death of his father, battling an Athenian warlord named Themistocles. The story takes place over the course of several years, but the focal point is the battle of Artemisium, which occured in 480 BC.
