Scanners and Ghost Ship were the first movies my parents hired when we bought our first VCR.... I was never censored by my parents, although out of all the horror movies I was allowed to watch, my mum would never let me watch Madman..... not sure why.....

Halloween ids the movie I really remember watching as a kid (5ish) and have loved it ever since

Started with the Nightmare on Elm Street series when I was like 5 or 6 then I moved onto the F13th and Halloween movies. Whenever my parents took me to the video store when I was a kid I remember always running to the horror movie section first. Loved looking at all the box art for the various horror movies.

Always did that too. I just made mental checklists of films to see when I was old enough.

Going to Drive Ins with the parents, sitting in the back of the Station wagon with snacks brought from home and a giant thing of popcorn from the theater watching whatever horror double feature happened to be happening... There was a little playground for us kids to hang while we waited for the sun to set and always a shitload of mosquitoes... a tradition started when my sister and I were 5ish.
That's where I first saw all the classics - F13, Halloween, NOES, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Piranha, and so many more... ahh. Memories.

When I was a kid I rented out all the zombie and ninja movies I could find, it was the mid 1980's so was plenty around. Feel video rental places became pos for the most part once DVD really took over. So many awesome horror videos just disappeared, very sad.

Horror Hound does a nice Video section, where they talk about a Video company and what they released, posters, giveaway etc. etc. Pretty cool read that brings you back to the memories of the 80's-90's

I first watched Friday The 13th Part 2 (1981) when I was four years old thanks to my grandma's horror collection. Soon after that came several of the other Friday The 13ths as well as most of the Halloweens. The first horror films I saw in theaters were Jason X, Ghost Ship and Halloween: Resurrection. Too bad none of the really great entries in either of those series were my first theatrical experience.

I'm possibly the only one here that can say that I have watched the horror genre blossom into greatness, and then descend into the abyssmal rubbish it is today.

First recollections of watching horror films started with either Frankenstein or Dracula both from 1931. Also watched tv series of Twilight Zone and One Step Beyond. Started watching when I was about 5 years old.

Earliest memories I have are watching MonsterVision on TNT in the late 90's. That was my first exposure to NOTLD 1990 and Cronenberg's The Fly among others.

My first brush with horror that I can remember has to be when I was no older than 3 or 4. All I remember specifically was blotches of purple, red, and off-white, and some(thing) trapped in a cellar. Oh yeah, and the accompanying sense of dread and terror that came with it. When I got into horror, I desperately wanted to find out what movie it was from. After a bit of talking with my aunt, who had given me my earliest exposures to horror movies, she had determined that the scene was, in fact, from the Evil Dead. When I was about 12, we hit the video store and she picked it up a good ol' VHS copy for me, and we went home and popped it in. It's been my favorite ever since.

As it is listed on IMDB, the guy who is cast as "Old man at pool party" is actually a friend of the family. Kinda cool I guess.

Seeing the theatrical trailer for The Shining when I was five. I saw a little of it and then my mom put her hand over my eyes, so there was just the light coming in between her fingers and the weird sounds. It was scary.

I miss the weekends growing up where my dad would take me to the video store and all we rented was horror flicks. He has seen Romero's holy trilogy as much as I have but denies it heh heh.
