80's? B/W witch movie? Possibly made for TV

So, there's this movie I used to see on TV all the time when I was a kid, in the mid to late 80's. It was a black and white film, from what I can remember, the protagonists were trying to get to the bottom of some sort of New England witch coven. The main thing I can remember from the film was that when the local minister (I think) got to know the truth, they cut his vocal cords (not graphically but very creepy). I think at the end the witch coven was burned alive in thier basement ritual area. Anyone have any idea about this one? Like I said, I'm not sure exactly if it actually filmed in the 80's, nor if it was truly made for TV. It was (at the time) quite atmospheric and creepy, without having any gore.
    Thanks!
    R

That movie you're thinking of is The Wicker Man (the original) ....the remake was horrible.

mmm, no, it definitely wasn't the original Wicker Man, I am familiar with that movie. I haven't seen the remake, I've wanted to check it out, hehe In the end of this film its the entire coven that's burned in the basement of their house..

Well, it seemed as if the people from the town had a kind of throwback style, like they were dressing like, I don't know, like they were from the 30's while the outsiders (the protagonists) were dressing in a more modern style, maybe like a 50's style.. It had a very New England feel to it as well..

I think you're talking about Horror Hotel aka City of the Dead, which is a black and white movie about a New England coven of witches. The town where they live is forgotten by the outside world, but a college girl goes there to investigate it, disappears, and then her sister goes looking for her. The town preacher was against the witches and definitely is killed for it; don't think he got his vocal cords cut but a maid at the hotel did. The coven meets in the hotel basement. Christopher Lee plays a diabolical college prof who encourages the girl to go in the first place, because of course he's a witch connected with the town. It's a 60s movie but was still in rotation on TV in the 80s. It's in the public domain, so you can watch it here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...21362234238603
