    Xtro

I honestly don't know what to think of this. The premise was good, monsters were original, but the acting and directing were horrible. The only character that was believable or had any depth was Sam, the dad/monster. There was one scene where a woman is being chased by a life sized army doll, and while she is hiding under the couch, she reaches out for a piece of chocolate, giving away her location. Seriously??? And towards the end the mother Rachael is unable to contact her son and is worried sick. So apparently her solution is to screw the husband that disappeared 3 years before. I know its a horror film, but that doesn't mean there can't be a little bit of realism and continuity.

Maybe the version I watched was heavily cut, but it seemed like there were a few sub plots that were started and never concluded. When Sam and Rachael go to the cottage, you are led to believe, for about 5 seconds, that the cottage has been broken into. Then, nothing. And when they are walking in the woods, Rachael finds some mutilated animal carcasses. Then, nothing. A black panther suddenly appears, without introduction or explanation.

Weirdly enough, even though this film was disjointed and downright horrible at times, these things seemed to come together to make the viewing experience even more enjoyable. I'm glad I watched it.

I saw this when it first came out. Alien abduction, based on a true story, correct? I remember it being kinda slow, but there were some really trippy scenes. I watched it with a couple of adults, and I remember being the only one who enjoyed it. I was quite a bit younger, so maybe I should watch it again.
I remember reading an interview with the man the story is based on. He said the majority of the movie was accurate, except for the scenes in the ship (that memory tells me looked very similar to Neo in his battery pod from the Matrix). I think he said he had very little memory of what actually happened while he was away, and that Hollywood took liberties and intensified the visuals to help sell the movie.
    I could be wrong, though.

Yes that's the movie. I've seen several interviews with that guy, he said he only has flashes of being dragged through the ship and slight memories of experiments. Damn good movie though, very creepy.

I thought the first 30mins was great. But once it starts getting into the weird shit with the kids toys or what ever was going on, it lost me.

All I can think is this alien has the intel to get millions of miles through outer space but doesn't have the smarts to get out of the road when a car is coming.

I think the chaos and confusion added to the pleasure of this movie. Not sure why, though. Sometimes movies like this leave you disappointed and confused. Or they try so hard to be different and convoluted that it prevents you from connecting to the film in any way. I thought Xtro did it just right.

Resurrecting an old thread to finally say that I watched this after so many years of wanting to see it. The creature and creepy road scene always stuck with me over the years, so I finally decided to check the full movie earlier. Like others have said, the first 20-or-so minutes with the creature were pretty entertaining, but once the dad comes back it just gets slower and weirder from there. Should've just stuck with the creature. 5/10
