Seriously! It has a great first half, and then the 2nd half is the reason why it'll go down as a modern classic.

SPOILER ALERT: That scene in The Indian In The Cupboard where the boy puts all of his action figures in the cupboard and opens it to find them all battling, like Darth Vader vs a T-Rex, only to bitch out and close it immediately because he's afraid. The 2nd half of this movie is like that scene, except Joss Whedon doesn't bitch out and delivers on every level.

I would have been so happy if instead of ending with the giant hand smashing down, we got to see twenty more minutes of giant Lovecraftian monsters bringing about the end of the world.

So glad I gave this a shot! If you mash Evil Dead with The Condemned you're going to end up with the basic idea of this.

The characters were your completely stereotype crap seen in every horror film to come out recently. Which I hated till the climax. Love the "guest" appearance too. And the shoutout's to the classic's were pretty cute, mostly Hellraiser.

I ended up enjoying it actually, although it was damn annoying how that zombie fucked around for a good 3minutes with the main chick, when it just killed everyone else instantly. I also did love the bleak ending, that isn't done often enough. Best modern horror I've seen for awhile.
