Hell of the Living Dead (1980)

Finally sat down and watched this one. Heard so many bad things about it and how much Bruno Mattei rips off George Romero's Dawn of the Dead that I had to give it a try. It does rip off Dawn in so many ways...even some of the music from Dawn is in it. Decent storyline...horrible acting, make-up, editing, and directing...but I liked it anyway. One of those "it's so bad it's good" flix. I was never bored that's for sure. I was laughing most of the time and really found it a fun watch. Is it a good zombie film? ...not by Romero standards, but def worth your time.

It's one of my favorite shitty movies... I like what it says on the DVD case that it is notorious for it's "Eye-popping gore, jaw-dropping dialogue, and heart-stopping use of inappropriate stock footage."

And if the music sounds like DotD, it's because Mattei actually stole Goblin's musical score and used it on HotLD... I think there were law-suits filed about it...

I remember watching this with my little brother (who was obsessed with Dawn at the time) and him being extremely pissed off that he wasted a precious gift certificate on this garbage.

That implies Bruno Mattei is a genius He ranks with Jesus Franco for me, both guys are way outside the circle mentally and their films are enjoyable for not quite the right reasons
