Melancholie Der Engel is widely regarded by most extreme horror film fans as the single most extreme film that has ever been created. This film pushes every boundary that has ever been set before in an extreme film. There are scenes in here that will make even the most hardened horror fan cringe.


This film was created in 2009 by the extreme German horror film director, Marian Dora. This director was behind the famous film Cannibal, which caused massive controvery when it was first released. He has done the same thing again with this film. It is shot in much the same fashion using, light and shadow as not only a part of the scene, but almost as a character in itself.


This is a must for all gore/extreme horror fans!!!!

I have not seen this but I have it. I will probally view it this weekend. I'm really excited about this. This is the first time I did a thread before watching the film.

A few comments on this movie:

Filled with unspeakable atrocities, "Melancholie der Engel" is completely devoid of morality. It is a depraved, perverse and nihilistic endurance test. Readers be warned: I am not joking when I say this film is extremely graphic stuff.~ Severed Cinema

Let me start by saying that this is easily one of the most brutal films I have ever seen. Clocking in at over two and a half hours, “Melancholie der Engel” makes “A Serbian Film” look like it should get a PG-13 rating. Yeah, I’m serious.~couchcutter.com

I could handle this one either way but will wait as well. To me just see the scenes with people speaking German but no subs would be surreal to me.

Just watched this.

Two old friends get together with three women, an older man and a disabled girl in an old farmhouse in the German countryside. Sounds fun, aye?

One of the friends is dying so they are going to party by smoking a ton of opium, drink and drug their guests....oh yeah, eat fruit, smash tiny lizards and squish snails.

Don't get me wrong..that's just in the first hour of this 2 hr and forty minute movie. There are very sick and disgusting things through the film. It looks beautiful. The camera angles, the washed out colour and most of the music makes this almost like a piece of art. I felt that this film wasn't made just for shock value. It had several unnessary scenes and an animal kill that I think was real.

It was sick and brutal but it was all wrapped up in pretty. Nothing I haven't seen before. Two outstanding scenes in my opinion and they were at the end of the film.

This was arthousey with filth and disgust sprinkled in. A Serbian film was much better. There is a quote I posted in the start of this thread saying that Serbian film is PG~13 compared to this film.....no fucking way..

I give this movie a 5/10 rating.

That is very sad then.

Doesn't really sound like it is worth buying either now. Still sounds good but if you only gave a 5 out of 10 I don't think I will bother. Maybe I will watch a torent once I get my new computer.

Ahhh, geez. I'm searching too hard for that perfect film. This certainly wasn't it.

I'm just gonna calm the fuck down. I'll still research and look and read...but not get so excited just to be let down. I'm sure I'll stumble upon that perfect film I've been looking for.
