3D is the least of this movies problems. There is a lot in this trailer to indicate how terrible it will be. From the acting, special effects (although we are told repeatedly they are a work in progress), and I'm still not sure...but did I really see a giant praying mantis????

I never cared much for Dario so this doesn't surprise me.

The fool edited out one of the coolest kills in horror history from Dawn of the Dead for his European version - that zombie/helicopter scene

As abysmal as his take on Phantom of the Opera was, I can fully believe he would absolutely fuck up Dracula.


However, it does say the visual effects are unfinished in this teaser... I think I'll wait to pass full judgement of the cheese-factor until a finished product is released.

This could end up with Avatar quality effects and it will not save it from the atrocious acting. The scene where Dracula is pacing and screaming is actually funny. Not sure which is more humorous, that scene or the one where he is hissing at people. ...and still, the praying mantis

It's not the effects, it's the acting that makes me think it will be awful.

Yep. Folks would be pretty surprised how different their opinions would be if they saw their favorite film with raw, unmastered dialogue tracks, scratch score, "1-light" quality color, etc. Until it's finished, action and anything over-the-top is often comical when viewed as a work-in-progress. Not understanding how perception is shaped in the finishing of a presentation is a big reason why the non-filmmaker, corporate suits that run Hollywood studios these days screw so many things up in the middle of a production.

Also, there's no guarantee a trailer is using the right takes or scenes or not using material that's been left out. What seems great in script form, as words on the page, sometimes just doesn't work in reality. Then you have the non-linear nature of how films are produced.

This was also very obviously put together at the beginning of the post production process and I wouldn't be surprised if their FX vendor didn't even have all their imagery to work yet. These were test quality, animatic level shots, what few actually had any FX in them at all, like what they might have done quickly to get awarded the work (possibly for free).

Overall it felt like I was watching some lost Hammer film much of the time. The hissing vampire schtick and anachronistic campiness might be intentional. That said, I have even less faith in contemporary Argento than I have in Carpenter.
