    Lockout

From writer Luc Besson comes Lockout (or Lock-Out). Looks alright, haven't seen many good sci-fi flicks lately.

Heard the flick was super cheesy and a throwback to a lot of over-the-top action flicks from the 80's, but unlike them, much of the violence is edited Apparently there are some scenes where the filmmakers go out of their way to cover up some blood/gore. I guess they did that to secure the PG-13. Sad, because I think this flick would've def. benefited from some crazy gore to go with the over-the-top premise.

#9 at the box office at only $6-mil Looks like their striving for the PG-13 rating didn't make much of a difference.

This is exactly what it is. It doesn't have quite the varied cast of misfits but the premise and a few plot coupons are straight from EFNY. I saw it last night and it was a lot of fun. It kinda fumbles about a little bit during the third act and I wouldn't be surprised if we find out later on that the ending seen here is an alternate (parts of it felt rushed and not nearly as well-done as everything seen up to that point). Still, well worth at least a matinee viewing.

Over-the-top gore would have likely felt out of place with how light and funny much of the dialogue and character interactions are. Dunno. It feels very balanced as a "throw-back" action movie with lots of comic relief dialogue (think Shane Black sarcasm). It's definitely a "guy movie" and these, sadly, aren't money makers right now.

Scifi-Action is practically kryptonite to young girls (in America at least). Like prog rock. Prometheus has a shot at a sizable female audience because it's got two strong, likable female headliners. Lockout doesn't have as much to get back either. It's a, relatively, low budget, foreign production. That's not a knock, just an observation. Imagine if the Titanic double-dip (or is it triple, or more now?) only had to make back $30M

this was a pretty great movie. Like Die Hard or Escape from New York in space. Yes it was cheesy as hell but the movie lets you know from the get go that thats what its going for. Guy Pearce plays the "snake pliskin" type role very well and if they ever remake EFNY like they've been saying for years then I think he'd be a pretty great Snake. I'll be buying this one on Blu-Ray. Unfortunatly it didn't do very well at the box office, but i wasn't suprised by this. If Tom Cruise or somebody like that would have been in the lead role it probably would have made a ton. Which is a sad fact. Not that I didn't like M:I 4. It just bugs me that a known face will get people in seats like that. Where as Guy Pearce who should be a way bigger star than he is, doesn't pull them in. And as someone mentioned before, sci-fi just doesn't pull in the ladies. And unless your name is Bella, Katniss or Harry then the ladies are stayin home.

A big MEH movies, to be honest. It could've been great, but aside from Guy Pearce's role as the wise-crackin' indestructible anti-hero, I felt the movie was pretty much a big miss, especially as far as cheesy action throwbacks are concerned. Despite what others might've said, I think the movie def. would've benefited a great deal from some over-the-top splatter and more violence, but hey, that's me. As it stands, it's an okay watch for a really boring late night, but I wouldn't bother hunting it down or dishing out any $$ for it. 6/10

I'm a big fan of Guy Pearce and Escape from NY, but this movie just doesn't look good to me especially the awful CGI on that motorcycle sequence.
