Just got back from the theatre and feeling pretty buzzed.
I had no expectations going in, I was a fan of 300 despite its occasional silliness, so I wondered how they were going to top it with the sequel/prequel. Well there are no real internet meme worth moments, but it still kicked ass.
Most of it is about the naval battles and they are pretty spectacular. The Greeks kicked the Persians asses most of the time, except for the final part which is predictable but cool anyway. It was nice to see the Athenians in battle, not as cool as the Spartans from the first movie but the naval commander of the Athenian forces, Thermistocles, did a pretty good job.
Eva Green was pretty damn awesome and probably the best thing about the film. She will go down in history as one of the most badass female villains. Sexy, too, she again proves her willingness to show that great body of hers.
It doesn't hold up on the carnage and violence. Perhaps a little too over the top with the amount of cgi blood. The battle scenes do get a little repetitive but at least this one mixes it up with the ship to ship combat.
Lena Headey and Xerxes did fine in their smaller roles as well.
The 3D was well done also, the visuals again being top notch. No shitty shaky cam, and of course lots of slo-mo.
As good as the first one? I would say it will definitely satisfy if you enjoyed the original.
