(UK) Pusher remake (2012)

This is actually the 2nd remake of Pusher, the first being the horrible Bollywood version from 2010. Anyway, the UK decided to remake the film and now there's a trailer:

I'm assuming a lot isn't shown in the trailer, because it doesn't have the sheer ferocity or grittiness that we've come to expect from the original trilogy (for those of us who've seen it). If there isn't any of that in this remake, then I fail to see the point of this at all.

Anyway, original creator Nicolas Winding Refn takes a back seat for this one and only remains as exec-producer, while some guy named Luis Prieto directs. They have Richard Coyle playing the lead, who in my opinion, doesn't fit the part at all, but we'll see how it goes after the film is released. So far I'm not impressed.

who would want to remake pusher...cool concept...but there are better ideas to remake from...or think of a new one!!


though UK drug flicks tend to be good...but that usually is when it is their own....

Caught this earlier -- MEH movie. I think if you've never seen the original then you'd probably like it a bit better.

The biggest issue I had with the flick was there was no heightened sense of urgency or dread. Yes, we can clearly see that the lead guy needs to pay back his supplier ASAP and we see him going around the city attempting to do so, but we as a viewer don't feel it ourselves. That's what was so great about the original -- it was gritty and realistic to where you felt as though you were in the lead's shoes and an overwhelming tense and anxious feeling would often be felt.

I think it's also partially due to the lead actors. In this remake this guy seemed way too clean cut and collected. Even when he was freakin' out, he still seemed like a regular dude to me. He just didn't fit the role well. 6/10

I remember I bought the trilogy after you drafted one of the films, I think it was the second one.

Interesting but not sure if I'd watch it or not. If I happen to come across it I might give it a go. Don't think I'll go looking though.

I love my mind too, it helps me think. I think I may have liked the first one a tiny bit more. I still have to watch the third one. Which I've been looking forward to, that guy is a bad ass.

It hit on DVD and Bluray the other day not sure if i will check it our not still haven't even watched the originals got them on screeners though somewhere.

Yes I have to agree this was a really pointless piece of shit movie and anyone who hasn't seen it don't bother. If you haven't already go watch the original trilogy, I love them all for their own things they bring to the table but yes the second is the best.
