    All of those didn't.

As for ones that didn't get much hype but should have
    House of 1000 Corpses
    Cabin Fever
    Hatchet

I'm not talking about within the horror community, but more mainstream

The one at the top of my list for that NEVER in my honest opinion lived up to its classic status and hype is Rosemary's Baby

Why? I love slow burn movies period but what killed it was Mia Farrows most annoying performance I didn't care about her character at all and I think I should have

Its too slow and except for the John Cassavetes part there was one that kept my interest in the story which to me isn't very good nor convincing

Too long even as a slown burn it could have been cut 15 mins at least I don't care what anyone says it could have been done

The one that lived up to its hype although not at the top of this list as I would have to seriously think on that is the 1980's Maniac.....Joe Spinell is disturbing and he puts on a acting clinic here convincing me he is Frank Zito.....Tom Savinis work is great and solid pacing.....I was hooked from start to finish

and one more for now that has LIVED UP to the hype "The Burning"

    More to come I'm sure......

    Brilliant film.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who has a love for horror films can find flaw in RB.

Folks seem to love hating on The Exorcist and The Shining in some circles, and I hold them in just as high of a regard. That's like the trifecta of horror movies that actually seem more appreciated in mainstream film society than straight horror. Maybe that's why. They're real films that also happen to be horror movies, not the other way around simply by being technically excellent and told by non-genre filmmakers.

Seeing your sig picture is kinda related to this. Iommi and the original Black Sabbath just made the music they felt and it became Heavy Metal. There's countless other bands that are Heavy Metal musicians ahead of being musicians and thirty years from now nobody will care to remember their names or the music they made.

Paranormal Activity lived up to it's hype, and blew it out the water.

The Exorcist and The Shining - surpassed the hype and can still today scare the bejesus out you.

I made the mistake of watching the piss take of the excorcist before the movie and I actually found it quite comical...

Didn't live up to the hype? It's got to be the fog the remake, never seen original and the pet cemetery I found this film boring. The most hyped shit film has git to be IMO creep.

Did live up to the hype for me Halloween, Dawn of the dead, American werewolf in London, the original wicker man and a couple of my personal favorites is stir of echoes and flatliners...

Deserved the hype but never got it... Dogsoldiers and pitchblack.

Most of the "banned" or "Omg so sick" films rarely live up to all the hype. But
    A Serbian Film
    August Underground
    Salò - to some extent.

did live up to their labels.

I am actually in disagreement with "Maniac." (1980) The only thing I enjoyed about that film was Tom Savini's effects work. I went into it with high expectations due to all I had heard from fellow fans, and I just did not like it. I'll give it another chance at some point, but upon initial viewing, it just didn't live up to the surrounding hype. That's just my opinion, though.

On the other hand, I think Rosemary's Baby is a great film, very well-acted and suspenseful. It also stayed very true to the novel, which I loved. The Burning is a fun little slasher as well. Other movies that lived up to the hype - A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, The Exorcist, Cannibal Holocaust, April Fool's Day, and Intruder (the latter 2 more hyped by fans than critics).

Burning was good, recently viewed it. I wouldn't call it hyped up. Maybe on some message boards. The Stuff was pure cheese loved it watched it on Netflix. Rosemarys baby was way to slow for me.
