Love Zombies or hate them?

Who here loves zombie movies? By this I mean the shambling flesh eating corpses for the most part and not the modern trend of 'sprinters'.

!!! One of my favorite genres in horror. As for fast zombies...doesn't make sense. Not that zombies do either, but at least if we're going to be some what realistic then they wouldn't be able to run. I'm all for the slow ones.

Was there ever an explanation put forth as to why they run? Thinking about decaying tissue it just doesn't make much sense. If it was freshly dead I can get that but something that has decayed to the point is has limbs and skin falling off how the hell is it running?

Yeah, I mean if they want to make all the new zombies run I'm ok with that I guess, as long as they start to decay and slow down in time. But ones that have been dead for a long time or that even crawled out of the ground? Makes no sense at all.

You are right guys, freshly dead makes sense when it comes to speed. But over time with decay they would keep slowing down.

I believe in 'Night of the Living Dead the truck driving lady says something about the dead chasing after her truck. My brain isn't working very well right now so I could be mistaken.

I love the running zombie but I agree that the more a zombie decays the slower it should go, but my pet peeve is zombies using items. Zombies should only ever run, shuffle and eat. I like running zombies because it can make a scene scarier, I like the shuffling ones also because they are relentless and always get you in the end a bit like the tortoise and the hare

I love the zombie genre, but it seems too "in" at the moment. Everything is about zombies nowadays. Seems like it's the popular thing among non-horror movie fans as well.

I love slow zombies because the slowness does not matter when you have the certian "masses" of zombies comin at ya...that being said...the fast ones aren;t by anymeans a turn off...i know it doesn't make any sense for them to be fast but there is that "what if" factor....

What would make a zombie scarier than shit...."What if" the fuckers were fast...zombies on steroids if you will....

I do prefer the slow ones but like I said i don't shun the quick ones....

Well in Dawn they did bring up muscle memory. I guess if an item was used by that person everyday while they were alive it would make some sense that they would keep trying to pick it back up.

While I prefer the shamblers, I also must agree that I like the idea that their speed should depend on severity of decay. Actually a pack of newly risen zombies running amok, maybe leaving behind their carrion for the shamblers coming slowly through town, surprising any survivors of the speedy onslaught could be interesting. The shamblers would be forced to feed from the remains of the sprinter's frenzy, making for some nasty looking zombies.

I do agree fast zombies make sense if they are fresh, but if your rotting you can't move that fast. Not that a rotting dead corpse being up and about in the first place makes sense. The only thing that works with fast zombies is the fact they can catch you. Being eatin alive has to be one of the worst deaths imaginable and here is something that wants to do just that, and unlike a shambling zombie, this one has the ability to catch you. That is a terrifying thought.

Having said that I do enjoy the slow zombies more. I like zombies that look so undead they barely look human. And I miss when they used to crawl out of graves. I love that creepy movement, almost like a big spider it just looks akward and makes your skin crawl. And then theres the moaning. Zombies are walking atmosphere if that makes any sense. And I dig that. Now a days a zombie is no more than someone with funky lookin eyes, blood on their face and maybe some weird colored skin. Thats pretty much it. Thank God for shows like The Walking Dead.
