The Fly is good. Really good. Using this metric though I'd have to give The Thing an 11/10 then, at least

True. The Fly and The Thing both outdo the originals.

I met this cow, with this blank, pale, emotionless stare and, the blackest eyes... the *devil's* eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach her, and then another seven trying to keep her locked up because I realized what was living behind that cow's eyes was purely and simply... *evil*.

Eastwood deserves a thread about everything really. It's known fact without him the Universe wouldn't exist.

The Fly and The Thing. They're masterpieces.

I love the 80s remake of The Blob too.

I like the original Ringu a lot, but I thought the American remake was better (for one, it dropped the whole psychic crap and the way people look after they're killed by Samara is a lot better, the cinematography is breathtaking, the score is perfect, the performances are excellent, etc.). Too bad they had to make a shit sequel.

The remake of The Grudge sucked. They just tacked on some crappy CGI. Ju-on is better.

Cape Fear - terrific remake. Put an interesting twist on the original story, and was also bloody and scary, making it more of a horror movie than the first.

also worth mentioning: Assault on Precinct 13 and My Bloody Valentine.

I'll agree with these. Good picks, especially Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. In my opinion, both of them really did a good job at giving fans of the franchises something fresh and exciting.

The Friday the 13th remake is definitely underrated. Sure it's not perfect and has some quirks, but so do all of the other entries in the franchise that we all love.

My favorites are Dawn, The Blob, The Fly, The Thing (1982), and Hills. The Dawn remake is one of my favorites.

Other than The Thing & The Fly which are really well-done updated versions of the originals, I wouldn't waste my time watching a remake.

Adding the Hills Have Eyes to my list as well, great movie that outshines the original in almost every way. Aja rules.

    Agreed.

Bram Stoakers Dracula I feel is so underrated, and it's a great remake IMO (and I'm a HUGE Lugosi nut) I don't think it's better, but it does it a hell of a lot of justice. It's easily the best thing Vampire wise done more recently. IMagine one in this day and age, Drac would be a teen heart throb who hates the idea of drinking blood.
