The 47-year-old director-producer incited outrage among fans of the superhero franchise when he revealed at the Nickelodeon upfront presentation in New York last week that the pizza-loving, crime-fighting turtles would come from an "alien race" in a "Ninja Turtles" film he is producing.

"Fans need to take a breath and chill," Bay said in a statement posted on his site Monday night. "They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of 'Ninja Turtles' to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world."

I personally don't think there is any money to be made with this franchise anymore.

Whether its Bay, Nolan, etc.

I think it was an 80s fad that dried up by the mid 90s then suffered through a handful of defib attempts.

In fact IMO the only good thing to come from the franchise in a decade plus was the 'Turtles Forever' tv movie cartoon that crossed over the comic turtles, 80s turtles and those new age Turtles. It might have overdone the 80s turtles lameness but the final product was a very fun watch that seemed genuine towards the fans.

Alllll that said.

Bay does one thing real well..

Make money for a studio, he's a studio guy at the core. He's exactly what they want out in LA land

Expect...

- April to be a model hot off the presses of Victoria Secret
- Splinter to be in fact in his human form
- Leo to be Optimus Prime from the Bayformers Universe - aka untouchable will destroy everything without a sweat
- Raph will in fact be a rapper
- Mike will be the lame humor, think the twins from Transformers 2
- Don will be the the Turtle with 10 minutes of screen time and 5 lines, think Ratchet from the Transformers movies
- Bebop and Rocksteady will be the only thing Bay gets right if he goes that route and it will be by accident

Double edged sword really in the modern era

- You want a new take on the old material and you want it to be successful, just not Bay
- Movie makes no money, studios believe there is no interest/return revenue, franchise goes back to dormant mode

All that said, I really don't see much mileage left in the Turtles franchise.
