Not really. Canada, by way of the Canadian Film Board, has been one of the biggest supporters of animation in the world for at least the last thirty years. They upped their support recently for the industry in fact which now includes visual effects (which is part of why the US vfx industry is fleeing to Canada, Asia and the UK).
When I was going to CalArts to study animation the next most prestigious school in the world teaching animation was Sheridan College up in Canada. I wonder if any school teaches the real deal anymore.

I can honestly say that the only film I have seen where the cgi was actually done right without it looking like shit was Avatar.

You need to get out more. Avatar has some good work in a bad film but it has nothing in there that matches the best from ILM or the now defunct Rhythm & Hues. Weta doesn't do skin as well as ILM nor fur as good as R+H. They might be capable but they're not going to be pushed for that extra level of true, photographic realism, with either Peter Jackson or James Cameron for clients. Neither one is as fetishistic about photographic realism as Michael Bay. Not by a long shot. Those two make game cinemas for movie theaters.

I agree with most of this except for Friday the 13th.
That reboot was Friday the 13th's 1-4 in a nutshell. All it needed was the Manfredini score/some passable atmosphere and a bit more in the way of likeable characters, and it easily passes off as a early entry Friday the 13th film.
Jason running around like a madman, using a wide array of weaponry. I really had no problem with the Friday reboot because it didn't butcher what was an already super simplified story.

so here is an article proving that bay is doing whatever the hell he wants with the storyline. No surprise here.

I think it could be awesome I don't care if they are aliens. The Mutant Ninja turtles were already watered down and sanitized for kids after the original gory and violent black and white comics came out back in the 80s.

The Ninja Turtles reboot will be another Michael Bay Hollywood bastardized Transformers.

The only reason he got super over in the last decade was because Spielberg whored him out to everyone.
Not saying Spielberg is complete shit, cuz he certainly isn't, nor am I saying he's dead yet.
All im saying is they wanted someone new and younger, who could carry on the tradition of mindless summer blockbusters that make good coin.
Difference being.
Spielberg's blockbusters had better storytelling, and were more memorable.

JJ Abrams is the wannabe Spielberg. Bay is a wannabe Tony Scott+James Cameron love child. He's technically more savvy and exacting than Cameron, with a better eye than Cameron but he lacks Scott's ability to craft coherent films out of often questionable material.
I don't see any similarity between he and Spielberg in any way because say what you want about Bay he doesn't suffer from sentimentality. Comparing the two on high notes and bombastic spectacle that much of Spielberg's films are known for misses what actually makes a Spielberg film a Spielberg Film. It's not because of the creatures and explosions and aliens that they make coin, it's because so many people enjoy the sensation of Spielberg manipulating their emotions.

The movie will be one big PR stunt about Fox and Bay being back in bed with one another, after the Transformers 2 drama years back when Spielberg had her fired. Nothing more.
April O Neil and whatever male eye candy they put aside her, will be the stars, the Turtles will be an afterthought.
The whole blueprint will be ripped straight from Transformers.

It needed more of those things you mentioned, but I disagree about the Jason bits.
It was Jason from 1-4, with the exception of the hostage tactics.
1. Variety of weapons - check
2. Running around - check
3. Burlap sack - check
4. Hockey mask - check
5. No messing around with the backstory, with what little there is - check
We may agree to disagree.
It sure as hell wasn't zombie Jason.
Of the big 3 remakes. I still think its the best of them, for what little that offers. It was the most tolerable of the 3.
1. ANOES with Jackie was boring
2. Halloween I only liked the first half of

Rumored to be a leaked Halloween Costume for the upcoming film.
Hard to go by it, cause they never look like the characters. Though it appears Mikey will be wearing some sweet blue jean shorts. http://www.toplessrobot.com/2014/01/...ie_costume.php
Edit: didn't see Mac already posted a link to this.
