It's quite an old list though...

"But all's well that ends well, with Land of the Dead hitting cinemas any second now..."

Still some beauts in it though.. especially Shallow Grave, which I was fortunate enough to see being filmed...

Really solid list, no grievances with anything on it.

They kinda missed a major point with Darkstar. If they're going to put that rather than Halloween, which is a very dubious choice considering it was the most successful independent film ever made until Sex, Lies and Videotape I believe, they should have pointed out this was his student, thesis film. He made this with his buddies at school (Ron Cobb and Dan O'Bannon being good buddies to have) and a studio distributor put it in theatres (after giving him a little cash to pad it with 20min of extra footage, to be fair). George Lucas' thesis film also made it to theatres (THX1138) but what people saw was his first re-make of his own work, not the actual student film. That's a significant distinction that should have been made.

Decent list. Not sure if Donnie Darko should be #2, that movie is a bit over rated.

Well I wouldn't go that far, but that is a really good point about Annie Hall you make. One of the best flicks ever.

Also, evidence points to this being an accidental success and more deserving of a special 1-Hit-Wonder list versus an impact that might still be felt 50 years from now. The scifi in this is pure jibba-jabba, like in The Matrix or TRON, which shifts it further and further into the "quaint" category as it ages and audience sophistication rises.

It still cracks me up that Pinback from Darkstar is the same mind who wrote Alien and Total Recall and who made Return of the Living Dead and other cool horror/scifi flicks. Mostly that that guy wrote Alien!
