I recently got a copy of The Exorcist from a friend and will be seeing it soon for the first time (both versions). Should I see the prequels first? I always like seeing a series in chronological order for the first time.

On the subject of TV shows, I also remembered the Friday The 13th series that aired in the 80s along with Freddy's Nightmares. Been too long since I saw the F13 show, but I remember watching it all the time back in the 90s when it re-ran on Sci-Fi. Only seen a few FN episodes.

Don't bother with Exorcist 2 or the prequel. Both waste of time. The original is an amazing film while Exorcist 3 is good though.

That seems to be the general consensus on the series.

I literally finished watching The Exorcist for the first time just now and thought it was very good. I want to see the rest of the series at some point, but I have my doubts they're on par with the original. The Heretic in particular seems much-maligned.

Back to anthologies, The ABCS Of Death sounds interesting, anyone here seen it?

I don't think I mentioned the Amityville films before. I've seen some of them, my favorite from what I remember was probably the original, though I also liked the remake and It's About Time (with the clock).

Exorcist III is actually pretty good. Much of it is based on concepts, scenes, bits of dialog and character development found in the novel that the first film is based on. It's directed by the book's author, William Peter Blaty, who was a talented director in addition to being a good writer, even though it was William Friedkin who directed the first film.

Having read the book I understand why so many cuts were made for the first film, which I love and respect. It didn't really change my opinion of the first film but it made me appreciate the third film even more than I already did, that and seeing one of his other films, The Ninth Configuration.

Part 3 actually retains more of the signature rhythm and wit of Blaty's dialog featured in the book, where the script for the first film took on a more matter-of-fact realism, bordering on verite. It's almost like Blaty made E3 because he couldn't live with everything that didn't make it into the first film.

The end sequence, the very very end, after all the fantastically entertaining Brad Dourif bits, is just silly, to me. Ironically, Blaty fell victim to his own creation, deciding to go down the road of over-the-top theatrics and vulgar, ham-fisted (and poorly executed) supernatural spectacle, like so many other derivative works.

I'll be sure to check it out and the other films eventually, I'm intrigued to.

When it comes to both prequels, opinions are pretty split, but Dominion seems slightly better-received than The Beginning and even Blatty said he was humilated when he saw The Beginning but he liked Dominion.

I think I forgot the Night Of The Demons films before, I believe I've only seen bits of the first and third movies.

I remembered the Critters and Ghoulies films before, haven't seen any in years. I think either the first or second Critters was my favorite, and I don't remember Ghoulies well enough to pick.

The Ghoulies films are incredibly cheesy.

I liked them as a kid and remember catching them on TV quite often back in the day, but who knows how I'd feel about them now.

Rewatching Trick 'r Treat recently for the Halloween season reminded me what a great movie it is and how awesome all the intertwined segments in it are. My favorite by far in the movie is easily the one with Sam and Kreeg.

Having recently rewatched the Tales From The Darkside movie for the first time in years, I think the best segment now is Lover's Vow. All three segments are great but that one is easily the most well-crafted of them, IMO.

In Creepshow my favorite segment is either Happy Fathers Day or the one with Stephen King.

In the Twilight Zone movie my favorite one is the Kick The Can segment.

Good call on the TZ movie. My favorite segment is by far the one with the gremlin on the plane.

I watched Curse Of Chucky earlier in a marathon with the whole series, it was pretty good but I still like the original Child's Play the best, though I tend to teeter between 1 and 2 as my number one favorite.
