Caught this big-budgeted action fantasy epic earlier and liked it. Despite its poor BO performance in the US, it's really not a bad film. There's some good action, but also some major pacing issues in the early and mid-parts of the film. I think if they trimmed about 20/30 mins off the running time it would've definitely flowed better, especially with the unnecessary way it ended. Flaws aside, it's worth a look if you're in the mood for a no-brainer fantasy epic 7/10

They should have kept with the original title of "John Carter of Mars", plaine old John carter sounds like a guy down at the car yard.

yeah I agree with Splat. They really marketed this one wrong. Of course when I was sitting there watching it in the theater I knew this one would bomb. Its just to weird for mainstream audiences as a whole. But I had a good time with it. Was better than I expected. To bad it tanked.

Agreed, when I saw the trailers I had a feeling it would bomb as well. The story is just kinda weird for this kinda budget, plus I'm sure not many people are familiar with the source material to begin with. Was enjoyable regardless.

Just finished watching it and I also liked it. It is a pity that it shot craps at the box office because there was a whole series of books that they could've drawn further movies from.

On a side note, there were a lot of aspects of this movie that reminded me of another book series... John Carter is like Gor without the Tarns and sex-slaves..

There are so many parallels that I'm pretty certain that John Norman was either inspired by, or blatantly ripped off, Edgar Rice Burroughs when he wrote the Gor novels.

I wonder where all the "remake haters" are on this one? ... I mean the Asylum adaptation of this book came out in 2009: Princess of Mars...

Remake haters all like to consider any re-adaptation as a remake, so why not this one?

I plan on watching this sure to be Asylum POS adaptation of a good story eventually, just for shits and giggles.. Regardless of how bad it is, I do consider to be a rarity among Asylum flicks though.. They actually made the movie first and not just ripped off the big budget movie afterwards.. not that I think it will make ANY difference whatsoever..

Seriously, Princess Dejah is played by Traci Lords for fuck sake.. could this get any more hilarious?!!!

We saw John Carter in the cheap theater and loved it. Really sucks that it flopped so bad.

I'm probably not going to bother with this until it's available on netflix streaming. I'm not familiar with the source material anyway.
And I'm certainly not going to watch the Princess of Mars drivel either.

The John Carter flick, not the Asylum POS, is absolutely worth watching.. I totally recommend it.. It's a cool flick and the character, John Carter, is a complete bad-ass.. If you like sci-fi/fantasy adventure, I'm pretty certain that you'll really enjoy it.
