Who introduced you into the Horror Genre?

Was there a special person, a relative or friend who showed you your first horror movie? Or, like me. discover it yourself?

As just mentioned it is something I fell into. Movies such as 'Jaws', 'Halloween' and 'I Spit On Your Grave' got the ball rolling. Once I started renting VHS tapes I pretty much went for Italian Zombie movies as well as Ninja movies...sent my foster parents insane

In primary school my friends and I talked about it a lot. Most of them were into 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and the 'Friday the 13th' series at the time which, believe it or not, I hadn't watched at the time.

So, what got you started?

My mom used to put in VHS Nightmare on Elm Street flicks (or Arseno Hall, so she says) to stop me from crying when I was a baby. Said I never took to cartoons.

But I first started getting into in in 6-7th grade when me and my sibs used to rent scary movies and watch the ones on TV- TNT's Monstervision and Vegas's Saturday Fright at the Movies.

For me it was a host of a local night time TV show, Nightmare Theatre. His name was Sammy Terry and he was campy, ghoulish, and the perfect introduction to horror for a young boy in Indiana.

My mom use to do the same thing...god I love her...my mom def got me into the series and everytime i go to see in down in FLA it is a tradition that we put a horror flick on...even if her taste has slowly dimenished in the past...syfy horror (the channel) don't know how she can do it...

Babysitter when I was a wee one. She used to watch the NOES series on video all the time. Gave me nightmares, but that was my first exposure. Later on in my early teen years, I had a friend who's dad was big into horror, so we'd watch whatever we could.

My dad. I was 8 years old after trick or treating and he rented Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the dead, The Exorcist and Halloween. Made for a sleepless week but after that I was hooked.

There was a thread like this before if I remember correctly, but My sister introduced me to some of the classics when I was 7 years old. Zombie Flesh Eaters, Revenge of The Boogeyman, TCM,Evil Dead, etc..

I could swear I answered this already! My dad took me to a midnight showing of Dawn of the Dead when I was 5 years old. I remember seeing the poster right outside the theater doors and how it was rated XX.

My parents. They sat me down in front of the TV and said it was time. I watched NOTLD1968 at the age of 10.

Loved the feeling I got.

Discovered it on my own. Just happened to catch Psycho one Christmas day, and I took it from there.

I was thinking about this question tonight while watching some 80s horror.

A lot of these movies were introduced to me through the neighbours of my foster mother's sister. They would rent out vhs tapes and copy them. I would be invited over and pick out whatever I wanted to watch. Needless to say I picked horror for the most part. Probably watched a tonne of 80s stuff I cannot even remember now, would watch them for hours as I was by myself most of the time.

There used to be a double bill on a friday night on the BBC, usually Hammer or Amicus. Those were the days.

Was my dad... Remember sitting next to him on the floor when he was in the recliner when I was about 5...First movie I remember was Child's Play... Never really liked dolls afterwards, but I was hooked... We also used to watch Tales From The Crypt ALL THE TIME... Love that show... So yeah, it was my dad at the age of 5.

My longtime friend Derek and I used to spend summer vacations watching horror movies like TCM, F13th, Halloween, Faces of Death, Evil Dead, and I Spit On Your Grave.

I got interested because I thought all the latex and gore and prosthetics were cool. That and the box art was generally pretty rad...often times actually better than the film, lol.

I started loving horror around age 5. I remember renting Carpenter's The Thing when I was 6. In the 4th grade Halloween costume contest, I was a full-blown DIY Jason Voorhees while everybody else was cheesy stereotypical things (ghost with a sheet on their head, "GI Joe", princess, etc.). In the 5th grade I had a Friday the 13th movie marathon for my b-day slumber party. Etc.

I dunno, I've just always been fascinated by horror.
