Godzilla makes surprise apperance at Comic Con 2012

A breaking news item from Comic-Con, moreover, the big Legendary/Warner Bros. panel in Hall H. The studio has debuted a teaser trailer from the new Godzilla film! Director Gareth Edwards (Monsters) was on hand to talk to the crowd. Head inside for our teaser description culled from our live blog.






The opening WB and Legendary logos are B&W with a font like original Japanese writingThe footage pans across a city that has been utterly destroyed.

We hear a voice over a radio talking (the voice of Robert Oppenheimer) about the end of the world.

It looks like another giant creature's body is in the wreckage.

We hear the classic Godzilla scream from the smoke, we see something enormous. We're following a camera up Godzilla's back, showing his scales.

We see his face, but it's almost a silhouette. It looks a LOT like the classic Godzilla design but with a slightly fatter face.

From the sound of it, this teaser won't be hitting the Internet any time soon... Edwards explained to the crowd that the film will not be campy by any means.

and lets hope edwards doesn't turn this into a sensitive art film. Monsters was alright, but i was expecting more 'Monsters' in Monsters.

The traielr hasn't made it on line, which is surprising cause knowing the internet, a leak would seem obvious. However, here's this image.

Also, while it wasn't announced at Comic Con, a lot of sites state that the film is slated for a 2014 release.

logical choices would be Mecha godzilla and Rodan. but i'm hoping they King Ghidorah! or Gigan, maybe Orga

thinking of it, it wouldn't be stupid move to make the opponent Hedorah (for those that have seen the movies) since Toho were thinking of doing a 3D movie with him. the with the whole "save the earth" movement it would make sense. plus he was pretty cool.

EDIT: I read about what the director said. He said there is nothing sci-fi. Its very grounded in reality and the take on it is "what if this really happened". That sorta scares me. Did they not learn from the last time?

oh every bloody director gives us this "lets make it real" talk, it should be "lets make it good"
Personally, if they don't add another monster, it will just remind be that other movie 'Zilla' with the giant iguana roaming around New York, screaming its nuts off. but i can definatly see a possible series of movies coming out, most likely will have a antagonist monster in it.
till then, it will be good to him do what he does best and DESTROY SHIT

As bad as the last American cinematic abortion that bore Godzilla's name was, I will remain completely skeptical of this project.. However, one thing I hope from this is, even if turns out to be complete garbage again, it will have the same effect as that 1998 piece of shit did, and that was enraging Japanese fans enough that Toho listened and whipped out some true Big G mayhem with the Millenium Series of Godzilla flicks.

If I had the chance to speak with the director of this movie, I'd wish him success in capturing the essence of a Godzilla movie, and also tell him if he fucks it up, I'll bury my fist in his face all the way up to the big fucking Gigan tattoo on my shoulder.

Would love to see quality Godzilla on the big screen. I always loved the original and hope that this next attempt somewhat captures the mood of the black and white classic.

And speaking of Gigan.. If they decide to go with an established Godzilla villain for him to fight, obviously I'd love to see another re-imagining of good ol' Gigan.. What they did with his looks/abilities in Godzilla: Final Wars was fucking righteous... however if they're going for "realism", I doubt that a Giant Cybernetic Kaiju from Outer Space will fit the bill..
