Caught this South Korean anthology film recently and thought it wasn't too bad. It was originally conceived as a three-part anthology with each segment offering a different director. Unfortunately, financing fell through and the third chapter wasn't completed until several years later with the two directors from the first couple segments combining their talents for one tale.
1st Story: My fav. of the three, follows a man who inadvertently creates a new flu-virus that travels from person to person, causing them to act enraged and zombie-like. It's not long before it takes over the whole country. This story was fun and interesting, and loved the look of these pseudo-zombies (they never died, so I don't consider them actual zombies, just infected people). Good pacing and comedic elements made it an overall enjoyable watch. Would've loved to have seen a full length version of this. 7/10
2nd Story: Basically set in the future where robots have pretty much taken over the duties of menial tasks by humans. The story revolves around one robot in particular that's based in a temple, where the monks there believe the robot has reached some sort of enlightenment, while a robot repairmen believes it's just malfunctioning. I honestly thought this was the weakest of the three stories, despite it being the most meaningful. It just had horrible pacing and there were just too many dull scenes. Though, like I said, it does offer some good substance and a nice ending if you can sit through it all. 6/10
3rd Story: Is the shortest, but also most comedic and fun. It tells the story of a family that move into their bomb shelter after news of a large object colliding with earth is revealed. The object in question turns out to be a giant 8-ball that was purchased online by the daughter at a mysterious site a couple years ago, which she believes may have ties to a wormhole and aliens. Dun, dun dunnnnn.. Crazy stuff in this segment and a lot of nice funny moments. 7/10
Overall: 7/10 If you like South Korean flicks and interesting anthology movies then give this one a check.
