Saw the first two...was so bored watching them, I wanted to gouge my eyes out...most likely will pass on this.

First let me say I really enjoyed Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 3, 2 was merely OK. So my friend "in da biz" got me into another screening and the theater was packed. There was a buzz in the room before the lights went out and Paranormal Activity 4 began.
Just over thirty minutes in I started to get a bit uneasy. No, not because I was scared but because I was extremely bored. I'm not using spoiler tags because to be honest I cannot possibly spoil ANYTHING.
I am not kidding in the fact this movie makes its viewers watch empty rooms. Many...many minutes of empty rooms. Then they throw in cliche'd jump scares that don't fit into the mold of the Paranormal Activity movies. Yes, they use cats running past the camera that is focused in on an empty room for far to long to get a jolt out of the audience.
A main focal point of the film is a missing knife that has vanished from the kitchen. "All the activity has apparently led..." to a fucking missing knife!
Then there is the total implausibility of it all. These two kids record over two weeks worth of strange footage but yet never once reference it or show it to the mother who of course doesn't believe them. The film even hints at the fact some instances of footage wasn't recorded by them but by whatever force is in the house. So now we have ghosts filming themselves using mounted web cams.
Ah yes, you want to know about how the Illuminati symbol fits in here. Guess what, I saw this piece of shit movie and I'm still wondering! The biggest selling point to me was the apparent mythology they were implying here but none of it was delved in to at all!
Aside from the decent performances by the little boy and "Alice" the movie is pure garbage from beginning to end. I could honestly type up five more paragraphs of issues I have with it but I simply can't do it.
If you want to watch video feeds from empty rooms and two increasingly annoying teens web chatting, this will be right up your alley. This isn't even worth a free stream on Netflix. Yes, it is that bad.

Such a shame, this could have been a great follow-up to part 3. Thank you for saving me the money and time.

If this isn't horror at it's lowest I'm not all too sure what is. I can leave a window open at night and film whatever the wind rolls/pushes/swings around and I've made half the film. Put some stupid annoying people in it and I'd have it, if not something better. I don't see how people can watch these movies, and it baffles me how they are the least bit frightening. I'd take a remake of a classic over this type of crap any day. At least they normally have the odd cool scene.

For what it's worth, this movie is a lowly 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. I have also learned there was a review embargo on this and reviews couldn't be posted before yesterday.
The rest of the franchise is as follows on Rotten Tomatoes:
3- 68%
2- 59%
1- 82%

My guess is they gear these movies towards teeny bopper chicks who would be on edge the WHOLE movie for one jump scene and then go to school telling all their classmates how scurred they were :elstare:

The first one I used to bash all the time, but it really isn't too bad of a horror flick. It scared the shit out of people and that's all that matters. I skipped two, but watched PA3. It wasn't too bad, but the trailers piss me off. They try to make shadows scary, and it just doesn't work. This new one looks reeeaaalllly bad.

This is a rental for me. Obviously not expecting much, the trailer for it doesn't make it any better.

I saw the first one in theaters with my ex girlfriend. She's terrified of ghosts and didn't jump once. After the film, some dude came over (younger than me) and he was with two girls. He was like "HEY MAN, ARE YOU OK?!" I'm like, "It..wasn't scary..I'm fine". And he just walked away.

I could have never watched these flicks in theatres. I'd be too focused trying to kill screaming teens than watching the films. Then again, I think that's what normally happens with these type of movies.
