Rob Zombie as a director

What are your thoughts?

I love how he casts horror veteran actors and makes references to past horror flicks. The grimy kind of Gothic rock influence that is present in the style of his films; it's very refreshing

I didn't have a problem with him until I noticed how all his films look the same, visually. They all seem to offer the same sort of broken redneck trash and it doesn't help that he keeps casting all the same people. I think he's an okay director overall, but he seriously needs to change up his shit Oh and Halloween 2 was horrible

I love Devil's Rejects and thought his take on Halloween was pretty well done - The rest were all shit. House of a Thousand Corpses felt like a bad remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, with Dr. Satan barely being a part of the film. El Superbeasto was terrible. H2 never should have happened in the first place. The fact he constantly hires the same actors is fine with me. Kind of makes it feel like a nice little horror family. But the redneck trash thing he throws is getting a bit tiresome. Does the average person really swear that much when having a normal everyday conversation?

I love all 5 of his movies.

House had so many issues that i'm surprised he got it done at all. No, the story doesn't hold together all that well, bu i think he more than made up for it with Devil's Rejects.

I thought El Superbeasto was hilarious. It lost some steam towars the end, but it's not a very long movie anyway.

Halloween was an original remake and H2 was pretty damn brutal and original, imo.

His wife, however, CANNOT act!!!

I do like Zombie with the exception of Halloween 2. It just left thrown together. His style isn't really anything new but it is okay.

The white trash aesthetic kinda got on my nerves at first but it finally just sorta gel'd after seeing a few of them and felt like a consistent world. Maybe it's less appealing than the stuck-in-a-different-part-of-the-70s universe that Tarantino creates in all of his films but I judge them similarly now.

Lords of Salem, however, I'm going to be really curious to see. I have a hard time imagining Southern white trash in New England as a recipe for anything digestible. Hopefully we'll see a broadening of his style. That said, a good friend of mine was his script super on this film and she says he's absolutely amazing to work for and loved every second of being on the LoS set.

Some interesting works but I didn't really like his "Halloween". I don"t want to waste my time watching "Halloween 2". I'd better write original scripts rather than direct remakes.

I enjoy RZ style a lot...it does sorta carry over from one film to another maybe to much..however I love a dark grimey redneck'esq feel in my flicks...H2 was def shit....he could have just made another horror series of his own if he obviously substituted MM for Moonshine Mickey or some shit...

All in all if RZ keeps making flicks I will keep enjoying them..

I also like him as a director, have high hopes for Lords of Salem to make up for the disappointment of H2.

Every time I watch a Rob Zombie film, I spend most of the movie thinking "Man.. these mofos need to wash their hair!" They all look like it's been a couple of weeks without hittin' da shower...

I think if he got away from the red neck thing he will make some pretty good movies. I like his visual style he just needs to apply it away from what he has been doing. Lords of Salem could be this movie.

I'm on the fence when it comes to him as a director. I loved House of 1000 Corpses. It was a grimy looking movie with some great moments. The only problem is every single movie he directed after that felt the same. I like his style, but it's like watching the same movie over and over. The Devil's Rejects was decent, Halloween remake I enjoyed until I watched it again. And H2..well I think I feel the same way every one else does about that movie.
At the same time I am looking forward to The Lords of Salem because I feel like he may be able to do a witch movie right for once. At least I hope so because we need a good witch movie.
