Plot definitely sounds familiar already said Temple of Doom is not it....only things that keep popping into my head are Golden Child and Big Trouble in Little China

Could be The Presence aka Danger Island where these people are trapped on an island and the monster is a result of genetic military experiments gone wrong. Cliché cheesy plot, which is why this made for tv pilot never inspired the actual series that was gonna follow!
