The tall man/The secret by Pascal Laugier

I decided to put this thread here even though the cast and the funds are clearly from North America.

I just saw the movie a few hours aho and liked it very much.

Pascal Laugier wrote the script before he wrote "Martyrs" script actually. He said during an interview that "Martyrs" is some kind of rageous and hateful version of this movie in a way. It's like day and night, thesis and antithesis basically.

This movie looks like a long X-Files tv series episode to me (in a good way). Some kind of a small Lynchian stuff in the movie as well with the description of a small isolated town. William B. Davis got a role with is fine as I liked him in X-Files.

It's very beautiful visually speaking and the music does its job very well with a very melancholic mood that could make you kill yourself haha

Unfortunately I can't tell very much about the movie as it could ruin your experience.

Laugier must love women very much to give them such special and interesting roles in his movies even though they're not easy roles to play. Biel plays her role pretty well and I think she can be satisfied being associated with such a movie (she co-produces it)

Not as impressive as "Martyrs" but I think this movie will improve as time will be passing.

I liked it aswell. I thought the film was going in one direction but them took me down another road. I liked that. It looked beautiful aswell.

It is totally so different than Martyrs, I mean I didn't know they were by the same director/ writer. I found out as I researched this movie further.

Anyway I liked the feel of the film very much.

I read a few lines about it and an interview of Laugier a few days ago so I knew some of the twists before going to the theater.

Take the time to compare the two movies and then you'll see they can but come out from the same mind.

I have, I did. I got the feeling, I mean what I was feeling while watching The Tall Man was good. Then I read about Pascal Laugier . I wasn't that surprised.

I consider this movie as an interesting experience but it can disappoint some people as it's not "Martyrs" bis. Don't expect the movie to be as raw and relentless and hateful.

I'm looking forward to reading your point of view.

This movie was just mentioned on Facebook and it looked interesting. Remembering that I had glimpsed this thread I felt compelled to check it out. After reading Walk's write-up on this I really want to check it out. I loved Martyrs so obviously want to check out what the director can do. Also started back on watching episodes of The X Files so linking the two style wise etc really intrigues me. I want to see this soon

It just rerad quick reviews in a French horror dedicated magazine and one of the guys thinks there's an influence from "Millenium" and "X File" tv series. I'm glad I'm not the only one to think so haha The influence can be felt in the mood.

It's a hate/love movie. You'll like it very much or hate it very much. It won't let people neutral about it so I can't guarantee you you'll appreciate it.

I didn't enjoy the movie as much as I thought I would.It just left like "eh"...I can't quite put my finger on what bothered me,but I just didn't connect with the film and didn't really like it.

I've read today in a French magazine that Laugier had only a 35.000 bucks budget for the score of the movie. Not very much...

I kind of lost interest in watching this now. I saw it on Netflix Instantly but didn't feel like watching it.
