    Revisiting Freddy vs. Jason

I was kicking it at home the other day and upon finishing a small, yet effective joint, I was due for a flick. I wanted to watch something I hadn't seen in awhile and came across my Freddy vs. Jason DVD. Originally I seen it twice in theatres because, well, I had never seen a Freddy OR Jason flick on the big screen at that time (Thanks to the remakes that's all a thing of the past). The dialogue in each of these series has never been good or even average. But my god, is it even bearable to watch for anybody else?

Ken Kirzinger as Jason was pretty much a fail IMO, just didn't get into him that much. I also thought that the makeup used on Freddy in the first 3 minutes was way better than what was used throughout the rest of the film. There are some fun kills (the folding bed). I don't think this was the goriest film in either of the series, considering the two villains, you'd expect some more. Overall, mildly fun but pretty tough to get by MASSIVE flaws that the film displays. I didn't expect it to even be a good film but it could have been more fun than what it was. Too bad they didn't have Tommy Jarvis like originally planned. Thoughts?

It was a lot better than I expected it to be, but I was a little disappointed how it was mostly a Freddy movie than anything.

Each franchise had some truely rotten entries. I'd say FvJ falls in the middle, leaning closer to the good stuff.

I'd really like to see one more Robert Englund Freddy for the road. Even at it's worst, Englund is a standout.

The Freddy Krueger in the remake was complete weak sauce and an utter waste of time

I saw this in theaters at least twice since I never got to see F13 or NOES in theaters, except the remakes and Jason X
It wasn't a great movie, but I still like it. Not the best by any means, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine.

It could have been such a great movie but... Disappointing even though entertaining in its way.

hey Lep, good post, glad to see some lep content. keep it coming.

the idea of the film was much better than the execution of the idea. Freddy playing Jason as a fool was awesome. I even bought into the idea that 'use Jason to bring back my memory - well done for a jason or freddie film. i thought all jason/freddie sequences were OK. I never warmed up to the humans, Freddie taking over humans/whats a dream/whats real and lets not forget the whole "he killed everyone i love, blah blah blah i'm not leaving till i see him DIE" line just makes you go a bigger rubbery one. Because lets face it...after she said that we all kind of wanted to see her die and she didn't

Guilty pleasure of mine too. I thought Freddy's make up was a bit too much, too demony if that makes sense, and I HATED the lead girl (her look, voice, acting) but that was about it.

I'm not quite sure why I liked it, but I did. I think it was just pretty cool to see the two icons play off one another. And, as has already been pointed out, Robert England was kinda special in it. Yeah, the living humans were nothing special, but all in all, probably my fav in the series.

Still the best VS movie out there and it was quite fun though Ken as Jason was a bit too cardboard for my liking. Mears or Hodder would have been better but they wanted Jason to tower over Freddy so its whatever.

Then Michael Bay took over the reigns for both franchises and that era is now forever gone.

To be fair I thought F13 2009 did more to stay to the roots of Friday the 13th than NOES did for NOES.

Basically they didn't fuck up Jason like they did Freddy or like Rob did with Myers.

Only problem is they both suffer from garbage characters/no atmosphere whatsoever.

This was so much fun to see in the theater. Everyone got into it. It's not perfect (Jason is afraid of water? that line was dumb... the script was a lot smarter on that point, and there are plenty of other little things), but I really enjoyed it. It's a billion times better than the awful AvP films. Too bad we'll never get Freddy vs Jason vs Ash.

Agreed. I feel bad for anybody who's never seen any of the original Nightmare films, but enjoyed that shitty remake.

I had a great time seeing this in theaters, but it didn't hold up at all after that. It's just another terrible post-Dawson's Creek teeny horror flick. It's unfortunate that after all of the years of waiting and anticipation for this idea to actually happen, this is what we got from it and it'll never happen again. Much like the AVP series too... ugh...

I liked Freddy Vs. Jason. I agree it was flawed - like with the dumb dialogue - but I expected that. Just from the title i knew it would be dumb fun, not Silence of the Lambs.

They were talking about a Freddy/Jason pairup for a long time. I remember reading a magazine interview with someone talking about the pairup, way back in 1986. No kidding.
