My friend dragged me along to see this flick and since I had a free pass that I never used, I thought it would be good to use it on this flick. We got in the theater and it was FULL of children, but I tried not letting it bother me. It was actually more entertaining this way. I never really seen a kids movie in the theater so it was funny hearing them scream at parts. But the movie was actually pretty good!
I was shocked on how good the movie actually was. Like most horror themed kids movies, there were a LOT of homages to the original flicks. Just in the top of my head, they referenced; The blob, the Mummy, Frankenstein (and Bride), Wolfman, Dracula, The Fly, Gremlins, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man, and etc..The story wasn't half bad as well. It was a typical love story/comedy/kids flick, but it was done with some class. The jokes were very smart and the animation was pretty good too. The first, say 45 minutes, were really funny. The zombies in this movie was hysterical and the jokes kept coming. After that though, it died down a lot. It concentrated more on the stereotypical love story and it was just something we have all seen before.
The things I couldn't stand in the flick were the following
1. They called the Monster, Frankenstein, the entire time *shivers*
2. All the music was autotuned and suuuuupper geared toward kids.
The first one will always bother me, because he's not Frankenstein..he's the Monster. Maybe they were naming him off of his "father", but I don't think so. The music wasn't balanced either. I mean the movie was for kids, yeah, but it wasn't until the music came on that really made me roll my eyes. It was just so childish and awful. I understand it's what the kids are into nowadays, but jesus it was bad.
Anyway, the flick is really funny, the animation is decent and the storyline is pretty good. You get attached to the characters (the same characters in every Sandler movie, but was shocked to see this wasn't a Happy Madison Pro.) and it ends by putting a good feeling in your stomach. It was a cool flick to watch and definitely one of the better horror themed kid flicks out there.
I'd give it a 7/10
