The Day (2011)

This flick turned out to be surprisingly good and one of the better recent post-apoc setting thrillers I've seen since Stake Land and The Divide.

The film is pretty simple--basically follows a group of survivors in some sort of post-apoc world, where they have to scavenge for food and shelter. They come upon a secluded house, and it's not long before they're forced to barricade themselves and defend the house, as dozens of dangerous cannibalistic people close in on them.

It's trying to be passed off as a "horror movie" but it's far from one. It's more of an sci-fi/action/thriller. The cannibals really don't act like cannibals, so any sort of genre element is lost on that part. I think it's better off anyway since adding horror into the mix would've probably unnecessarily cheesed it up.

Anyway, there's a good amount of violence, with LOTS of kills and some decent gore. One really badass chick within the group played by Ashley Bell that you'll likely still be thinking about after the movie ends since she one of the key leads and made such a huge impact in the movie. The pacing drags in minor parts and there could've been more character development, but otherwise, I really dug it and it seemed to succeed where a lot of other indie films failed, due to the talented cast and filmmakers. 7/10

I enjoyed it as well, one issue I had with it though was these cannibals or whatever the hell they are supposed to be are supposedly a fearsome lot but the survivors always seemed to blow through them fairly easily.

I'd have to agree. As far as Indie movies goes it's one of the better ones that has been turned out. Good cast and visuals puts this one a few notches above the standard apocalypse flick.

I ended up turning this one off around the bit they are torturing the ex-cannibal chick. For whatever reason the movie was annoying me. When what I have read in the above maybe I will give it another chance We will see

Should give it another chance, that scene doesn't even last very long and the story and action picks up again right after that
