I like the prequels. I didn't grow up watching the orginals though.

The guy who plays Anakin make me want to shoot myself though. Especially in AotC. I thing RotS is fukkkkccing awesome. Except for the shaft that Grievous gets. The film is just the darkest of the lot, which I think is why I love it.

The original three are great though.

It seems Lucas had an idea for this back in 75'.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_sequel_trilogy

His writing used to be decent. I do expect some cheese out of SW. I look at it as Indiana Jones type shit in space. At least on the scale of adventure and such.

You can't argue the guy has vision, and imagination. He just needs to learn that you can't keep straining the same sponge. He need to let new water flow into it. Which he is starting to do. Apparently Lucas still has a major say in whats going to be happening though.

Something to keep an eye on, my guess is they will keep a lot of it uncover till opening though.

I dug the original 3, but I'm not a huge fan, nor obsessed with'em. They were good flicks, that's about it. The prequels were entertaining, but really disliked the first one that came out. Was way too childish and boring.

I'm finding I'm liking them more as I age. When I first saw them I wasn't overly fussed. I suppose I was too young to really get into it way back then though. I bought them all on Blu in the set, which is amazing. It was great seeing them all again. I'm thinking about watching ESB tonight actually.

    Michael Arndt is apparently the confirmed scriptwriter;

He's won and Oscar and been nominated for his writing skills so at least the dialog will be decent.

    Now for the director.

Kathleen Kennedy has said they are choosing someone who she has worked with before. These people include David Fincher, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, M. Night Shyamalan, Hayao Miyazaki, Clint Eastwood, Gary Ross, Julian Schnabel, Scott Hicks, Jan de Bont, Frank Marshall, Joe Dante, Barry Levinson, Robert Zemeckis and Martin Scorsese.
Half of these people wouldn't touch SW though, in my opinion anyway.. Who knows what'll happen.

I wonder if the rumors are true about Ford,Fisher and Hamill maybe reprising their roles for episode 7.

to much time has passed. I know Harrison Ford is still a known actor but all of them are in their late 50's early 60's now.

Too much time has not passed at all. Ford would still do it and I can guarantee Fisher would (since she probably needs the money) and Hamill still reprises his role in Robot Chicken all the time. Hamill is still a huge voice actor and I don't see him slowing down anytime soon.

Even if it's just cameo's by all three (obviously cameo's as their original characters) I would be ecstatic.

They should have just done the sequel trilogy from the start rather then wasting time with the prequel trilogy. Episode III was the only movie in the prequel trilogy that was good.

    Love me some RotS.

Except how badly they portrayed Grievous.

    annnnd we have a director

    http://badassdigest.com/2013/01/24/j...star-wars-vii/

    Beam me up, Boba.

The Wrap is reporting, and Deadline just confirmed, that JJ Abrams, mystery box holder and director of Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, will be the director of Star Wars VII. Abrams said in November that he turned down the film because he had some "original stuff" he wanted to work on next, but he added that seeing A New Hope as a kid informed him as a filmmaker.

“As a kid I was always a fan of special effects,” Abrams said. “Watching movies I was constantly trying to figure out how they did it, whatever the effect was. Star Wars was the first movie that blew my mind in that way; it didn’t matter how they did any of it because it was all so overwhelmingly and entirely great. It was funny and romantic and scary and compelling and the visual effects just served the characters and story. It galvanized for me; not for what was exciting about how movies were made, but rather for what movies were capable of.”

Well, now he'll have the chance to show a new generation of fans what the Star Wars universe is capable of. Mystery boxes! Mystery boxes for everyone!

Of course we all hoped for an edgier director, someone like Brad Bird (and The Wrap also reports that Ben Affleck was in contention, which would have been really interesting), but I don't know that anyone with any real edge ever had a chance of being selected for this huge project. Abrams is a safe choice, and he'll likely do a fine job. We know exactly what he'll give us, and I think we can all stop pretending now that Star Wars VII had the chance to be something incredible. It'll be safe and pretty fun and sort of dumb. Congrats, Abrams. And congrats to all the hard-core Star Trek fans who now have their franchise back.

Why does everyone keep saying they are 6 movies? There were only 3 ever made ever. They were never touched after they were made and that was the end of it. *crawls back under her rock and refuses to come out*

Lens flares jokes aside, this is exactly what this franchise needs.

Abrams has made no secret of his love for Star Wars and I'm sure he understands what these films need and what they don't. He gave Star Trek the huge shot in the arm after a couple of pretty bad films so he's ideal to get these films back on track.

    Regarding episode 7.

Don't really care, one way or the other who the director is.

If Mark, Carrie and Harrison aren't involved in some form or another. I'll chalk it up to another hollywood sellout/scared movie won't sell cuz the movie doesn't have an entire cast under 30.

And yeah I realize the star wars universe is very big with a wide variety of stories of tell. I just feel not allowing us to see how Han, Luke and Leia have gone about their lives post Jedi will be a real cop out.

Without them, its an auto fail.

Also in retrospect, a sequel trilogy should've been what happened. Instead of the prequel trilogy which had the baggage of trying to perfect Vader. Which was never going to happen.

    Couldn't agree more

I'm not the biggest Star Wars nerd on the planet, but the prequels were atrocious. I honestly think we'll get to see how Luc, Lei and Han all ended up. Hamill seems like he'll do anything, Carrie Fisher seems like she would need the dough, and Harrison Ford, I heard, is going to do Indiana Jones 5. I doubt there will be any problems in securing those three.

Abrams did amazing things with Star Trek and what looks to be an amazing sequal so I'm real pumped to see what he's gonna do with Star Wars. I just hope he doesn't do everything lucas wants (we all know he'll have a hand in it) and make it look like the prequals. I'm very excited about this.
