Scary but non-gory horror films

Ever seen a horror film that had very little - or no - gore, or even much violence, and was still scary, even shocking? If so, talk about them here. The ones that come to my mind are the original Halloween, The Blair Witch Project, Joy Ride, Hard Candy, and Funny Games (I saw the German version, but I heard the remake was the same.)

violent but not really that bloody that first scared me were the first 2 halloween movies when I was a kid. Freddy cool. Jason cool. Michael....he was scary.

I did not find Blair Witch Scary at all...very un watchable..I think...motion sickness...for some reason What Lies Beneath always got to me in my younger days...good creepy ghost flick..

watched it again recently and realized it wasn't as bad as when my younger eyes viewed it...

but I love me my gore flicks!!

The Women in Black, 1989 and the remake had some moments
Wait Until Dark, an 1967 movie that is just amazing in suspense
See No Evil, an older film with Mia Farrow. Scared me as a child.

The original TCM was pretty terrifying for its time and offered zero gore and only a few semi-violent scenes.
