I'm always down for an infection/virus/widespread-panic-type flick and Deranged definitely delivered in that aspect, though I did have some minor issues with how they handled certain parts of the story. The film basically focuses around the idea of a parasite infecting a human host and taking over its nervous system, eventually forcing the host to seek water and inadvertently killing itself. The parasite basically induces mass suicides, which naturally causes panic in Korea.
Although I liked the movie overall, there were quite a few issues I had with it. I dug the whole conspiracy angle, but felt a lot of the melodrama that revolved around the lead guy looking for a cure was a bit overdramatic and unnecessary, especially as the story progresses and the guy just keeps getting shit on. It would've been better off simply focusing on the conspiracy angle, but South Korean movies tend to rely a lot on either comedy or drama to drive their stories (which isn't always a bad thing).
7/10 (but a low 7)
And I'd like to add that I thought the story would go towards a minor horror direction, but they pretty much went another way entirely, almost completely downplaying all horror aspects, which was a bit of a disappointment for me. I think had they gone for a darker route it would've been more entertaining.
