Hell yeah!! Uncle Buck is also underrated! And my person favourite John Candy flick!
All of Underworld is overrated.
Nice. I agree.
I don't mind RZ, I'm looking forward to his next film, if it's shit though I'll give up on him.

Overrated: Every James Cameron film
I hate it when people say this. Saw and Hostel aren't overrated, since everyone hates them.
I will also add that Eli Roth is NOT overrated. I am so sick of seeing hate against him. If you ever watch one of his interviews, you'll see that he has a passion for the horror genre that not many other directors have. I also think he has a lot of potential, but I guess that's debatable.

If that were true there wouldn't be so damned many of them. Both of them. The sequel churn here far outpaces much more respectable franchises. Perhaps, more specifically, they're overrated in the mainstream and perhaps as you say the horror cognoscenti don't feel the same way but I'm skeptical.
I'm still waiting for the promise seen in Cabin Fever to come to light. Even Green can claim one good film and a lot of potential. For that matter, that's all Cameron had, IMO (the original Terminator).

I heard nothing but greatness come of it, then watched it and only liked the Tarantino part. Since I'm a Tarantino fan boy, to me it was brilliant. The Rodriguez part was atrocious, and the other two were fucking laughable. Plus Tim Roth was so god damn annoying during the entire "film".

I guess your definition of 'overrated' may be different from mine then. I am just tired of seeing all of these SAW/Hostel haters beating a dead horse. I have never seen such universal outward hatred for a series of films. Both SAW and Hostel are pretty much over, so I don't understand why everyone is still complaining. I don't think that's what you were doing, but I just rage whenever someone says anything remotely to SAW/Hostel hate since it pisses me off so much.
That's absolutely true; you have me beat there. I just have trouble seeing how people give so much shit to a man who is all about horror. Thanks for agreeing about James CameronI'm still waiting for the promise seen in Cabin Fever to come to light. Even Green can claim one good film and a lot of potential. For that matter, that's all Cameron had, IMO (the original Terminator).

Anyone can have passion for something but still not produce anything worthwhile. So many people praise his films that's why I say he overall is overrated. Cabin Fever is terrible. Hostel is decent at best, Hostel 2 is garbage. So I'm supposed to say he isn't overrated because he has passion and does good interviews? I agree he has potential but just as you said that is debatable. Until proven otherwise in my opinion he is overrated.

Yeah, no, that's not what I'm doing. Believe me, I wanted to like these films. I want to like new horror. I won't talk that much schmack about SAW's success because I know it was some indie guys that got lucky. I actually liked the character they created with the puppet and such. Just couldn't get behind the writing. But more power to them.
Eli, I really liked Cabin Fever and was lucky enough to see it at a special Alamo event about a year before he got distribution. I didn't like Hostel at all and I didn't change my mind with the sequels I saw. That's also likely just personal preference in there as well. I guess the whole Eastern-Europe exploitation thing I see more in common with Law&Order:SVU than I do horror. I'm not really an exploitation fan, beyond an appreciation for the aesthetic.
The danger here I see is so many people so early just lining up to yes-man Roth, mostly because of who he's friends with now. Filmmakers are never at their best when they're surrounded by nothing but people blowing sunshine up their ass. I hear Brian Bertino is having issue with this (The Strangers) so we'll see how he continues to develop.
edit: and I just noticed this was in non-horror. Got confused by some of the other entries and wasn't paying attention, doh!

Not really. I find most people who like these films are more so the non-horror fans. A lot of my friends who don't watch horror like the films as sort of a side dish of cinema. And think they are br00tal.
Also, just because he liked horror and is passionate, doesn't mean he makes good films.
Well, I guess we can see who loves the shit films now. Underworld is pretty damn sub-par.
This, although I think the first Hostel is ass, and never bothered with the sequels.

The Underworld films are far from shitty. Only the fourth really fucking blows. The first one is great, the second one is the best and the third is a fantastic prequel. Very fun action movies that involve (some) physical effect werewolves and a whole lot of gore. The story is great and Kate Beckinsale is a goddess. To say they are shit is very ignorant. But to each his own
