Just some
Overrated
- Every Scorsese film since Casino
- The Dark Knight (besides Ledgers work, the film doesn't have much replay value JMO)
- Joss Whedon - Now I have yet to see the Avengers but Ive seen most of his other stuff and if you take away Buffy (which was very good) then he's pretty average JMO. Just because the guy has a loyal following and he's gotten work doesn't mean he's a world champion. Most of his tv stuff except for Buffy/Angel have flopped and could be argued without the success of those two shows. This guy is probably an afterthought. In fact I'd hate to take all the credit away from the guy but you have to wonder if those shows were successful because of the likes of Gellar, Boreanaz, Hannigan , Head, etc and not so much all because of Whedon
Underrated
- My Cousin Vinny - Maybe Pesci's best movie
- Robert Zemeckis - Probably a reach but I'd call him underrated
- Frank Vincent - Guy doesn't get the credit he deserves, for all the mob related work he's done, hes always the guy who really nailed it in the part he had
- Keanu Reeves - Bill and Ted, The Matrix, Speed, Devils Advocate, etc He gets way too much hate JMO

I agree with My Cousin Vinny. In fact I was so curious as to if Pesci was even nominated for his role (I couldn't remember) I looked it up.
1992 was a beast of a year for movies. Check out this link showing all Academy Award nominations.
Pacino nominated for both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor in the same year!

Unforgiven
Yeah it won for best picture, but I say it's underrated.

I agree with you on Scorsese. He hasn't made any pure crap IMO, but anything with his name attached to it these days gets praise.
The Dark Knight has gotta be the most overrated movie I've ever seen. I have never seen so much praise for a series of films, ever. Might as well throw every other Nolan film in there as well.
I don't get why everyone is on Whedon's dick. What has he really done other than Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers, and that goofy TV show?
I'm personally not a huge Zemeckis fan, but I respect his work. I would say his work isn't overrated or underrated.

I also agree re: Scorsese. In fact, I'd go as far to say that I didn't care much for Casino, either.
The only Scorsese films that I've seen which I truly love are Taxi Driver and After Hours.
It may be because I'm not at all a fan of DiCaprio, and since he has become Scorsese's 'golden boy' these past few years, I've been turned off from his films even more.

Funny thing about Leo is I find him better suited for the pretty boy roles like Titanic than I do anything gritty he's tried to do over the last decade.
It suits him better, hides his weaknesses which there are many IMO.
He's just not very believable as anything other than a romantic lead which he's tried to avoid. He's just lucky Scorsese for whatever reason sees something in him.

Agreed about Wheadon
I liked Avengers, but for it to be on IMDB's top 250 is ridiculous. The entire movie gets praise because of all the build up. The only thing worth watching is about the last 45 minutes during that entire action scene. It was amazing, but other than that..one..big..fat MEH. Cabin in the Woods is amazing though. I loved every minute of that flick. Firefly is also meh. It has some decent actors in it, but the show is REALLY fucking lame. So many people praise a horribly acted (besides Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, and Adam Baldwin) and extremely bad looking (effects) show. The dialogue is so god damn lame and how every planet is like the wild west drives me nuts. Then they have this stupid ass little language that they speak in it and all these little "funny", stupid moments that aren't funny at all. It's just, a really bad show and I don't understand the praise.

I liked many of Scorcese's newer films. I thought Shutter Island was good (though I figured it out by the end), Departed was amazing but not because of the directing, I feel the actors in that movie hit it out of the park with some killer performances. I also thought Gangs of New York was badass since I love that time period and Daniel Day Lewis of course.
Overall I'd say Scorcese deserves all the praise he gets since he makes well crafted films and surrounds himself with some of the best talent available.
Whedon is absolutely over-rated.
Keanu does not have much range and isn't that great of an actor, but I like alot of his movies.

Pretty much everything done by David Fincher. I'm dead serious. I can't stand Fight Club, Seven, Benjamin Button etc. I do like Alien 3 but he disowns it so

I think Mark Whalberg is underrated.. A lot of people consider him eye candy for women, but when given the opportunity he can act... See The Departed
As for Whedon I don't think he is overated.. He made IMO the best superhero movie, and best horror movie of the last 16 years. I didn't watch Buffy, Angel or firefly/serenity but I did watch Dollhouse and liked it. Also his comic writing is pretty top notch.
For all time legends I think Steve McQueen is underrated. Has so many classic roles, and characters.
I also think the dark knight Is extremely overated, take the joke away and it's down right terrible... Plus Batman belongs in Gotham not Chicago
