Speaking for myself.. I've always loved movies featuring giant monster/robot battles. Godzilla, Gamera, The Gargantuans, Ultraman, etc... Hell, I have Godzilla's nemesis, Gigan, tattooed on my shoulder.. yeah, I'm that much of a kaiju nerd.
Perhaps you're overthinking this movie.. It's not going to be some cerebral cinematic event. It's not meant to be. It's giant monsters and robots beating the shit out of each other. I suppose you read into it as a thematic piece about mankinds unbreakable will to overcome adversity or something.. but I think even that is overthinking it. I think it's a matter of some people, like me, grew up watching this sort of movie, never stopped loving those movies, and wanted to make a movie that's a bit of a tribute to the Kaiju genre.
From what you've said, it seems to me that you don't like Kaiju/Giant Robot vs. movies, and if that's the case, then of course this movie would not look appetizing to you. If I'm mistaken and you actually do like that sort of movie, then I don't know what to tell you, because this movie looks like it's going to be a fucking BLAST.
