If done right, CGI is a useful tool, but far to many times it's done horribly. I will never replace CGI for standard effects that I grew up on thats just Lazy film-making.

Yeah, that's one of my proudest moments, I try not to whip-it-out so to speak or do things to come off like some name-dropping dbag. It's hard being proud of your work and your friend's work in almost any film-related forum and balance that with being an interested enthusiast like everyone else. 'Cause at the end of the day I was a kid from a small town that grew up loving effects and horror and got to pursue that in a big way but inside they're still that kid who remembers staying up to watch Phantasm when he shouldn't have or skip school to watch Flash Gordon on HBO.

Agreed, these should be go-to practically. If approached to do this stuff digitally the first thing I would do is try to talk the filmmaker out of it, doing it digitally I mean. I've done it, for a few different reasons. I did some of this stuff on our recent film but that was because we couldn't use blood in the location we were in (free) and I knew I was going to put the hours in to make it photographic. It's not ideal. I can give our production blood gags that would cost anyone else $50-60K because they were done the "wrong" way and it's just my time. It's not a good idea in general practice and better put towards hookers and blow

That's awesome. It's cool you get to work in the industry. And Phantasm is easily one of the most underrated horror franchises there is. And Flash Gordon is just pure

I had this fake rubber hand that I got at a local novelty store that I carried around in a box after seeing Phantasm (I was like nine I think). I got some hinges and a padlock out of my grandfather's garage and screwed it all into the box so I could keep him locked up, like he was chopped off from The Tall Man, lol.

I think Flash Gordon, when it premiered on HBO, was the first time I ever skipped school to watch a movie. I just HAD to see it. The love it got in Ted and Observe And Report was priceless.

I think you're the first girl I've ever heard or read say they liked it.
