how could you quibble about story with a movie like the raid, so unapologetically what it is. honestly, i thought there was a perfect amount of story: dude's wife is pregnant, dude kicks ass.
can't wait for the sequel. i welcome departures.

I couldn't disagree any less - I've already left a hefty review of this on IMDb under one of my many non de plumes but nitpicking Redemption about its lack of plot and/or subtext is akin to being scrupulous about The Texas Chainsaws lack of admonition re the safe and responsible use of power tools! One's a balls-to-the-wall slasher that couldn't give a flying Aylesbury duck and the other's the best chop-socky actioner of the last ten years. Neither requires such inconvinient lineaments as plot or character development to drive them forward. The Raid: Redemption does share a lot of the unsophisticated meat and spud slasher traits as TCM inasmuch as all you have to do is sit down, pay attention and strap in for a ride. Leave your brain at check in and fuck all critical analysis of a film like The Raid. It goes a million miles an hour so fuck plot and sense - such properties are superfluous with these kind of neck snapping, high kicking, knee breaking adrenaline fuelled flicks. Plots are for pussies!
Bring on Berendal!

I agree!
Well it is about a raid and that is what they show. Deeper into the movie we travel the more things come up to let us know more about the background of why it is happening. Personally I like it very much and it made me think about what was really going on.
I bought it thanks to UHM
Naturally I am excited about the sequel

If you are such fans of these films, you should watch "Chocolate", and overall the filmography of Prachya Pinkaew.

I thought Chocolate was alright, but felt a lot of the choreography seemed awkward. My guess is because it was a female lead and a lot of the men were afraid to impact her as much

It definitely doesn't compare to The Raid, but I enjoyed it.

Did you pay attention at the end of the movie?. When the movie ends, are shown all accidents that occurred during filming, especially in the final scenes, and there, we see how these were absolutely real. Incredible. Seeing is believing, ambulances and doctors involved.

I liked the concept and character, but aside from that everything was very standard to me. From the fighting to the settings. The only real difference (aside from the concept) was the fact it was a female lead.

It is completely understandable, I'm not a big fan of these films but I know there are many people who love them, we must recognize that they are a bit silly, the choreography and the ability to withstand shock that have the protagonists is superhuman. I am speaking not only of Chocolate, but in general this type of genre.
Come on, learn karate or other martial art just watching movies? But they're entertaining, after all that is the goal with these films. And you're probably right, and the only thing that differentiates Chocolate from the others is the fact that the protagonist is a woman.
