    The Impossible (2012)

    Damn movie

Anyway, The Orphanage director Juan Antonio Bayona returns to helm this heart-tugging survival disaster pic that's based on the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The film specifically follows a real life family that was vacationing in Thailand at the time the tsunami hit, and their struggle to survive and reunite.

GREAT performances from the leads, even that of young actor Tom Holland, who plays the elder son in the flick. The performances are accompanied with some superb directing from Juan Antonio Bayona, coupled with a very emotional score. Overall a really well done disaster film that successfully tugs at heart strings and gives the viewer a passionate look at the human spirit.

    Highly recommended 8/10

One of my favourite films of last year. Fantastic stuff! The recreation of the Tsunami was shatteringly amazing and the emotional pull of the family's struggle and everything of the aftermath of the disaster surrounding them was heart wrenching. This movie also meant a lot to me as I live in Thailand.

I recently saw the trailer for this, but haven't heard much about it.
I will have to check this out when I'm in a sappy mood and feel like a good cry.

Watched this last night since none of our TV shows weren't new and this had sort of been on my radar for awhile. The story is based on the experience of a real family that survived the tsunami, I'm sure there is a bit of Hollywood flare but really how much can you exaggerate the actual horror of such an event. It's not like John Cusack was driving a car away while the tidal wave swept in.

The movie was excellent, as were the performances all around, my wife was balling at several points throughout. I was surprised at some of the gory images, didn't think they would really go there but the effects were well done.

Definitely heart-warming to see people, despite language barriers, taking care of eachother. Agreed with the above, 8/10. Don't miss this one.
