    Shriekfest Call for Entries Open!

Shriekfest, the Los Angeles Horror/SciFi Film Festival continues its tradition as Los Angeles' Premier horror film event, presenting an exciting program of films each fall with beautiful Los Angeles as its backdrop. Now, in it's 13th year, Shriekfest takes place at the legendary Raleigh Studios, which is the largest independent studio operator in the country.

We offer filmmakers and film fans alike an ideal setting in a world-famous city, SHRIEKFEST draws in over 5,000 attendees each year. Both established and emerging filmmakers gain media exposure, connect with the region's diverse audiences, and participate in an acclaimed event attended by industry professionals as well as horror and scifi fans. Over the past twelve years, Shriekfest has welcomed numerous indie icons into its family.

We are looking for new and original films and screenplays. We are accepting films/screenplays in six categories: narrative feature, narrative short, narrative super short, feature screenplay, short screenplay, and original song.

We will be awarding prizes to the winning filmmaker in each category.

Last year's festival was a great success. We had our biggest audience yet, with a 10% increase over the previous year and more than 35 filmmakers in attendance.

HOW TO ENTER Entry form and information: www.shriekfest.com

We look forward to seeing your film!

Yeah...I sent my movie Hacksaw to that film festival...and apparently that film festival didn't think it was worth a damn, even when I paid the entry fee, they said it didn't make it. You just want high-scale, big, greatly-shot movies where it has to look great as opposed to the feeling of it.

Fool me once, shame on you.

Toby that is kind of the nature of the beast. These places get crap tons of movies and can't accept them all. It sucks you got rejected but you can't take it out on the festivals themselves.

It's not the festival's fault that your movie sucks, Toby

Rejection is a hard pill to swallow when you are passionate about something. Trust me, I have been there all too often in the past.

Don't take it as a knock. Take it as a challenge to better what you do. It sucks they simply tell you you were rejected and don't support their decision with any substance you can use or take as a learning experience.

Writing is the same way. Most, if not all rejections are a canned response they copy and paste into an email and off it goes. Hell, some publishing companies use the same rejection notice word for word. But sometimes there are ones that seem to truly care and don't send out a canned response to thousands of people who just got turned down.

I have come across publishers who actually told me what they didn't like about my story and the reason for rejection. A few even went as far to say if I made specific changes they would indeed publish it.

Bottom line, learn to take rejection with a grain of salt and turn it into something that will drive you forward with even more passion. If you succumb to being rejected your work will suffer along with yourself and you won't accomplish anything.

Keep at it; chin held high.

Oh trust me, I take rejections very well, and I understand they get a lot of movies in their festivals that it over-loads and such, and I understand there's those places that want to change your work in order to be shown (to which I would NEVER be apart of even if I were given a billion dollars).

But I'm sorry, unless a film I enter into a film gets accepted, I would rather get a refund of my entry fee to put into a different film fest or just save it for the next movie I'll make. To be perfectly honest, I can't afford to send my movies to a lot of film festivals, and it pisses me off when the work I send doesn't get accepted (I know, I understand, overload on movies, etc.) they could at least advise that I re-enter it next year and I could get a chance...but nope. Just take the fee and put it to good use for the film festivals, even if indie films still get the shitty end of the stick.

But still, I take rejection fine, it's just hardships like these are intolerable and I have to keep my finances together to make and produce my next movies. But oh well, I'm not too shook up about it, I'm moving on.

Someone/several people have to take the time to watch every movie submitted. That takes time and money hence the entry fee. The only one that doesn't require a fee is tromadance.
