Have to use Gaikai cloud streaming service which won't be available at launch. I'm hoping there will be some ports added to ps+ in the future to avoid that nonsense altogether.

We have a joint account with debit cards but mine expires in August, didn't know how that would play out since they don't bill you until it ships. I took hers and when I saw it expires next year...I ran with it

Good move, I remember pre-ordering something then months later received notice about billing issues since I had gotten a new CC before it was finally charged

Not much new news these days for either new console but I found this interesting. Sony has confirmed that there is no external power brick for the PS4. I am a little concerned about that since the console is so small and sleek and overheating can be an issue. On the other hand why design such a compact console just to have an external brick that is over a quarter of the size of the console?

I seriously hope there are no overheating issues and if that is pulled off the PS4's design would be highly impressive.

I'm sure it will be alright. They spent a lot of time designing the console, if they think this design won't cause overheating issues then it probably won't. No one wants to repeat Microsoft's mistake with the whole RROD thing. Still, you never know. That's why I'm waiting like 6 months or so after it releases before I buy one, I want to be absolutely sure there are no problems whether it's overheating or anything else that could result in a hardware failure before I put down the money for one. If there are problems, I will wait until they fix them.

I have no worries because I bought the 2 year protection plan through Amazon via Square Trade which is excellent. $35 for two years of coverage where they most likely just send you a new unit? Can't beat that!

Sony's PlayStation 4 has been passed by the FCC, meaning the retail version of the console is already deemed viable for sale to the American public.

Engadget reports that the accompanying documents reveal a "max clock frequency" of 2.75GHz, which gives us an idea of how much power the box is packing.

What's more interesting though is the fact that the PlayStation 4's operating temperature is listed as being being five and 35 degrees Celsius, which is cooler than the PS3. While Sony's current console is meant to run between 45 and 55 degrees Celsius, if it peaks at over 60 degrees you could encounter the infamous Yellow Light of Death, which essentially reduces your PS3 to a paperweight.

That's not to say there's no chance of similar issues with the PlayStation 4, of course, but it does mean that you should be more comfortable playing games during the warmer months of the year.

The only other piece of interesting information is that the PS4 looks set to weigh around 2.8kg, which is significantly lighter than the original fat PS3 which was 5kg.

If this is referring to the CPU speed, then color me NOT-impressed.

Consider the original AMD 8-core Zambezi processor from 2011 ran at 3.1 Ghz, and the current model Vishera suns at 4.2Ghz.
This is why I hate hearing about console specs, they tout technology that was moderately impressive from years before but pails in comparison to what is readily available in current PC technology.

At least the PS4's RAM is badass.

Jack Tretton, Sony Computer Entertainment of America CEO, has said that the PlayStation 4 will be a huge success as long as they do everything just a little bit better than Microsofts Xbox One.

Tretton admits that the PlayStation 3 launch was a mistake in nearly every definition of the word. In order not to repeat history, Sony wants the PlayStation 4 to do everything the Xbox One can but just slightly better.

We did not want to try to overexert ourselves with the PlayStation 4, remarked Tretton in an interview with Eurogamer, We needed to play it safe and evolve just enough so that the Xbox One looks outdated by comparison. I want to set gamers expectations high for the PlayStation 4, but I dont want them to think that we had the next-generation in mind when coming up with the console.

Everything we have added to the PlayStation 4 was added solely just to make the Xbox One look bad, continued Tretton, The Xbox One reserves 3 GB for their OS? The PlayStation 4 will reserve 2.5 GB. They use DDR3? We use GDDR5. Record the last five minutes of gameplay? Make it fifteen. They have a mandatory camera? Make our camera optional.

When asked about games on the PlayStation 4, Tretton replied, I believe our exclusive launch titles are vastly superior to the Xbox Ones launch titles. They have Forza Motorsport 5, we have Driveclub. They have Dead Rising 3, we have Killzone: Shadow Fall. They have Ryse, we have Knack. By how much better may differ from person to person, but even if it is just by a little bit, its still better. I truly think the next-generation race will have a clear winner once the PlayStation 4 launches.

Tretton was also asked about Nintendos Wii U. Tretton replied, We never even considered them as competition. They dont even have 8 GB of any type of RAM.

Sony certainly is trying to drive MS's head through the ground this time around, huh?
