Django Unchained spoiler question

I was wondering what you guys thought of Christoph Waltz's death in this movie. I figured it ws going to happen but it happened so abrupt and out of nowhere I was taken aback and thought it happened way to quickly. Don't get me wrong I loved the movie but I didn't like the idea of one of the 2 main characters being alive 1 second and dead the next. I felt like there should have been a real moment with his death. Not hey bang dead. What did you guys think of the scene?

Yea, it wasn't the best death scene. He was a good and memorable character but when he dies it just didn't connect with me and it wasn't sad.

What did you want? For him to die slowly in Jamie Fox's arms and extol some kind of poignant speech with his last gasp of air? "Django, ich sorry for calling you ein nigger. That would have brought the fucking house down.

I personally like sudden quick deaths like that, but what made his death so interesting was the fact that in the end he stood his ground in what he believed in and didn't wanna give Leo's character the satisfaction, even if it is just a handshake he was asking for.

I agree 100%, there's no need for a sappy fake hollywood death scene. The pure bluntness of it is what makes it so memorable. I simply loved that he refused to shake Leo's hand. The more I think about that movie, the more I love it. Can't wait for the bluray.

I feel that part of it was due to an issue of pacing. Schultz's death is the quick snap that starts the big shootout between Django and Candie's men. The abrupt death allowed Tarantino to ramp up the action right after for a big cathartic gun fight.

I agree with what fright said. He was trying to keep his cool and seem distant the whole time at the ranch, but his rage just boiled over at what was happening at Candyland he couldn't take it anymore, he took out Candy and it cost him his life. It happened in an instant because it was such a miscalculated moment of passion.
