Agreed. All movies of a specific genre can have the argument of it looks just like other movies that tell the same kind of story. Just another buddy cop movie, or just another zombie movie where survivors are holding up somewhere. It is the execution that will set these films apart and you cannot tell that by the trailers.

I am definitely excited for this movie. It appears to be the making of a great horror movie.
    Hopefully, it won't disappoint.

Well I wrote about it on my facebook 2 weeks ago that I got to see this. For me it is the best horror film to come out of this nature in many, many years. Everything about the film is near perfection. In all honesty, I found myself tense and dare I say it scared through parts of this movie. Wan has a way of filming this stuff that puts him above anyone else in the genre. He will be missed once Insidious 2 is out and he leaves horror, hopefully only for a bit.

Currently 87% on RT with 15 reviews in.

It doesn't even feel like a contemporary film. It truly feels like you are watching a flick that was dug up from the 70's. Everything about this movie is unique although to be honest it is typical haunted house fare. There is nothing new or groundbreaking, hell most is all stuff you have seen before. But Wan has a way of filming that makes it fresh and new. The material itself is been there done that. But Wan made it special.

I want to see it based on Mac's review, but haunted house movies don't do anything for me anymore. They're all the same. After the disappointing trailer, I might wait for a netflix release.

Am I missing something here? It's getting all these good reviews, but to me it just looks like any other PG-13 jump-scare schlock.

Possibly, I loved the movie. Thought it was fantastic actually. And it's actually rated "R".

I dug it... 7/10... liked it better then Sinister, but thought Insidious was better. Expected more scares.... anyway, it broke the record for an Original R Rated Horror movie opening on a friday.. 17 million, And apparently a sequal is in effect

I loved it. Liked it even more the second time around. The entire film was done brilliantly by Wan.
Really like the off the cuff mention about Amityville at the end as well. A lot of people that saw the movie either didn't get it or missed it completely. That's not a spoiler, but this is.

    Spoiler...
I like how Wan baits the audience in at the very end with the music box playing then it stops and the camera just sits on it for far too long. Everyone was waiting for something to jump out, but he simply cuts to all black. I thought that was fucking fantastic!

As Dark was saying about how much money it made. I took my daughter to a 4:10pm showing and it was sold out. When we got out the next three shows were sold out according to the digital board in the lobby. On top of it, we had a great crowd of people with us. I don't think it's possible for me to enjoy a movie much more than I enjoyed this.

Ha, that one got me too! I think I felt the entire theater shake with that one. That scene was very well done.

I blogged about the new The Conjuring movie. I saw the midnight show on late Thursday early Friday its doing great box office business. One of the better horror suspense films Ive seen since Sinister. Very creepy moody film.
