Favorite Horror Sub-Genre

What is your favorite horror sub-genre? More than one? List 'em all! Just curious as to what my fellow UHMers like to watch.

I like'em all, but my absolute favs are zombies and slashers, but I voted for demons, creatures and supernatural as well

Lots of subgenres even in THESE subgenres. I love serial killer flicks and slashers, but consider them different types of horror. When you say serial killer, I think of Silence of the Lambs and American Psycho. Slasher is Jason and Michael.

It's interesting how much of an umbrella term "horror" is. Very much a multi-layered area of film. Just a general poll. If I listed all the sub-genres of the sub-genres...i'd have a very long poll!

Zombies, even though it's still a fad. Slashers hold a special place in my heart though.

Night of the Living Dead freaked me out when I was a kid and since then it's been all about zombies for me.

I voted all of them but if I had to pick just one it would have been supernatural since that covers so much of the genre and contains Asian ghost stories that I love!

I like the inbred/cannibalistic/mutant families-in-the-backwoods-who-abduct-and-terrorize stranded-campers subgenre - when it's done well, which is rare.

I don't care much for zombie films. Zombies don't have much personality, though I heard that Warm Bodies was an exception.

I voted for zombies but my true fave would be what I've dubbed "mindfuck" movies, it's basically stuff like Videodrome, Society, Santa Sangre and other flicks that tend to defy easy classification (I'm also rabid about these films outside of the horror genre). Another type of flick I've been developing a taste for is horror flicks that don't tack on a happy ending (i.e. Martyrs and The Mist).

It's too hard to choose... they all have their merits (and de-merits). I ended up voting for 'All of the above'.
