Filming for Godzilla has officially began

Also with Days of Future Past coming out next weekend, can we say officially that this weekend witll have Godzilla vs X-Men?

absolutely amazing movie. If you're a Godzilla and you liked the original Gojira it has about the same pacing as that movie. Pretty slow build up with a wonderful pay off. Movie is beautifully shot and Godzilla is exactly the monster he should be. Here I thought it was going to tank, because the U.S. just doesn't go for movies like Pacific Rim and it ended up being the biggest opening day of 2014! A monster movie. Niiiiice.

Besides being marred by a Patrick Tatapolos design (the guy really isn't very good), the '98 film had nobody to really see. Not one draw was cast. Mathew Broderick was a definite misstep because in his adult career he has almost no charisma, which made him perfect to cast in Election, in an ironic twist, but as a sympathetic "hero", nope. Not gonna happen. Casting choices were possibly worse than the script or design of the monster, aside from Hank Azaria.

That movie still did a lot of business. It's only fault, boxoffice-wise, is that it didn't do as much as projected, not that it didn't do really well. What absolutely dwarfed their much better than respectable sum at the box office was all the licensing deals the studio made which more than paid for the film before it even opened. It did Spider-Man money in that respect, which most folks, including the studio, seem to ignore (Sony is kinda a dick, as far as executive culture goes).

No doubt this is going to be even bigger at the box office, and it would be almost impossible to not be a better film than in '98, but it will be interesting to see if it can actually be a bigger overall success. They're going to have to do more than sell a few toys to pull that off.

196 million worldwide! AWESOME!! Guess we'll be seeing more of the big guy. As much as I enjoyed this movie I'd love to see him go up against a familiar face in a sequel, or maybe even a Mecha Godzilla.

Saw it this morning. It has all of the faults that Emmerich's film had except this time they got Godzilla himself right. Terrible script. Almost nothing to like character-wise. The non-monster portions were better than a film from The Asylum, but I couldn't tell you if the script was actually better than something they'd come up with.

The monster stuff was all fantastic though. They just needed either more of it or to have distributed more over the running time. Pacific Rim had balls stupid dialog and plot devices but it was all somehow less disappointing than here. Still, I hope we see more Godzilla movies, just with a better director and writer for Part 2.

Excellent. No reason to follow any of these characters so let's hope for a clean slate and one of the classic foes for G to fight. Hopefully not Mothra. Fingers crossed.

Godzilla 93 Million Box Office Weekend Numbers for US Lands Number 1 opened better than Capt America and Spider-Man 2

I saw Godzilla at the Drive Inn on Saturday and enjoyed it. I wish there was more of Godzilla and less of the human storyline but it worked out okay. Why would be getting a sequel to this shitty remake when Cloverfield gets no sequels after 6 years? Cloverfield kicks the shit out of this pathetic movie. The world has gone braindead. The zombie apocalypse is coming.

I honestly don't get all the praise. I watched it on Friday and thought it was just ok. A solid 6/10 from me, but people are going apeshit over this. I see 9/10 and 10/10 being thrown around and don't get it. I'll post some opinions on it having pacing issues and too much romance (with characters that are forgettable) and immediately I am wrong. So, even though I liked the film, I'm wrong for not "loving it".

My write up was about a week before any others and it is exactly the same as yours. I gave it one point higher but agree on all your call out's. Nobody else to gauge my thoughts on the movie with but I knew for a fact I was going to be in the minority. Glad to see others thought it wasn't that great either

Found footage can actually work under the right circumstances.

I would like the sequel to more battle scenes with Godzilla and the Monsters and make the human storyline secondary.
